Question:

Is it NLP when changes their looks, behavior and mannerisms to match a famous figure in order to influence?

Background:

I know someone who has changed his physical appearance to closely match a famous personality. I think he is doing this so that people feel good dealing with him since he looks like the "famous nice guy."

Is this a use of NLP? What is it?

Thanks,

Phil

Yes, he could possibly be attempting to influence other peoples' reticular activating systems, (a known NLP technique) on the other hand he could just be in the early stages of an obsession.

Sounds like this person is trying to physically model their famous counterpart. It's not NLP per se, however, but you can use NLP techniques to model certain mental strategies successful people use in order to make yourself more successful.

I agree it does sound like an off-shot of NLP but there is some weirdety to it as the latest to do it that I'm aware of is Nadia...whatever hername is...of the multiple insemanation birth mother 15 minutes of media fame. She's the one that put the weirdness into copying a celebreties physicallity.

NLP is about modelling internal strategies of excellence not about copying someone's appearance.

Kundrolpawo has it spot on. Mr. Phil, NLP is when one uses body language, posture, certain words to develop report (that's repore not a report) with another person. Changing one's appearance to gain favor with others is considered just, "bad taste" I'm afraid. Your "acquaintance" is just mimicking someone else not really using Neruo Lingquistic Promming to communicate.

Well, speaking as someone who has a diploma on the topic I think I can fairly say that you have that wrong. NLP is not about developing "report" (did you mean rapport?) it's about maximising an individual's potential and productivity.

Really? do you wear makeup, and brush your hair Beatrix?

As I posted earlier, there is very possibly some NLP going on here, even if the person doesn't know about NLP techniques, so you are wrong to dismiss it out of hand.
