It depends on the work you do and how much you make for the sake of time. if you're a freelancer working 4 to 5 hours a day to make decent income, then its good to spend much time. Some people work as less as 30 minutes to pull up $400 to $800 out of internet for the day.

If you ask me, I hardly spend 4 to 5 hours everyday online and I'am very much satisfied with my income.

  • That is a lot of hours to spend in front of a computer monitor. Yes, I think you need a break. And you need to begin taking more breaks during the day. You'll go dull sitting that long at your machine.

Wayyyy to much. But on the other hand it's the "job" I chose.
Just need to maintain focus and take some breaks.

Yup, this is my job, so I spend most of my time on skype with clients and prospects. Then designing pages, making videos, testing new things...at least 12 hours a day.

I learned awhile back that blocking out time to go outside and do other things is an absolute necessity.

Thought to jump in by the time Jason replies

Chatting on Skype is as much fascinating as connecting with phone or email provided other client has added you on Skype

Its far easy to communicate via Skype!!

G.C...thanks for replying..Listening to how they talk, what they say, tone & speed of a reply, breathing pattern is one of the keys to selling over the phone. You miss this when chatting.

As soon as I made the commitment to register as self-employed it's anywhere from 10-15 hours a day. I'm currently managing several things so every day is a long day although I do try to give myself 1 day off in the week.

Think of it this way... put the hard work in now and you'll eventually be in a position to outsource work and your working hours should hopefully be reduced unless you want to make more that is

I'm an Internet addict. I spent the entire day in front of the computer doing my online business.. at home.. When I'm not online and don't have everything under control I feel not comfortable.. I'm not sure if this is right but I can remember those days at a construction site: 12 hour shifts six days a week.. Practically the same time consumption.. But what I really hate about working on the computer at home is that I don't really distinguish if I'm at home or at work. There should be a shelter where you'll be able to escape from all this daily routine.

I spend far too much time online, but when I'm not online I just miss it, sad I know! In terms of hours, probably minimum 8 hours a day.

  • I guess most of my time goes in being online. There is load of information which is yet to be covered and time is very less. Especially being into IT industry, I guess it's more or like an oxygen to live!!

If you are sitting in front of your computer for all those hours and are making a full time income online, then continue to do that.

The nice thing about your situation is that you can take a small break when ever you feel like it and no boss can tell you what you can take a break or not.

I spend many hours online too, both for business and for pleasure (news and info junkie), but I wear a Fitbit Ultra (glorified pedometer), and whenever I check it and have way too few steps, it reminds me to get out of my chair and walk for a little bit. It gives me a break and gets the blood moving again, which is good for health and creativity.

I spend about 5-8hrs per day, I don't want to full blast on my time coz' there are days that I just want to spend more time with my family and less on my work but I get to catch up some days. I just don't want to miss the fun with my family and what is going on with everyone. I just have to schedule them and have some quality time management.

I spend the majority of my day online in some fashion. My job revolves around it and of course it is among my favorite pass times.

    Hi QuelThalas

It actually depends if your getting good results from your work routine and if you work effectively. Because if you dont I wouldn't recommend sitting that long behind your computer.

These are some guidelines of my own to work effectively without wandering off.

-work in 1 hour shifts and take a small break afterwards
    -work with a countdown timer
-go for a walk outside at least every 4 hours (also good for inspiration)
-don't read e-mail all day, read it twice a day at most
-turn off email, skype, msn, cell phone or whatever that can distract you
-have a plan of attack for the whole day
    -plan tomorrow today
-prioritize your tasks and start off with the most important one (or the hardest)
    -clean your workstation
-drink plenty of water (keeps your gear oiled
-open up a window for fresh air
-you want good lighting in your office space

Maybe some of these are useful to consider

    Good luck,

    Orhan

I spend about six hours a day online and I try to break it up into two hour chunks with breaks in between so I stay mentally fresh and focused.

I say a good 8-10 hours. I do take a number of breaks and have to run errands here and there. So, it's not to bad. Wouldn't have it any other way...
