Getting out of your COMFORT zone...

Probably the toughest part of being a coach and consultant is getting people to shift....to stop doing what they've always done and change. People naturally don't like change...it's much safer to stay in the little comfort zone of routine...but that rarely leads to growth, innovation, or progress.

What's interesting...

For the few people who do get out of their comfort zone

And start exploring their fears

They get a RUSH out of the experience. The more you fear something and more you don't want to stray from your comfort zone, the BETTER and bigger of a rush you'll get when you do.

So use that as motivation to do one thing TODAY, THIS WEEK, AND THIS MONTH that you've always feared (either personally or professionally).

If you've feared getting on video, freaking whip out the video camera, shoot the video, upload to youtube. Do it a few times and I bet you start enjoying it.

Eventually you'll get to the point where you are SEEKING to push every limit you have!

ARE YOU ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE WHO LIKE TO STAY IN YOUR LITTLE COMFORT ZONE? BE HONEST AND leave a comment below.

Enjoy!

It's easy to KNOW what you need to do to make money online, it's a completely different story to start working through all the parts you didn't know about to accomplish those goals.

But once you do, it's a rush, just like you said.

It's amazing.. I looked back on some notes from 6 or 7 years ago when I was first getting started, and a LOT of them are the exact same marketing techniques that are effective today.

So if you're one of those people sittin in a comfort zone and you're happy there, more power to ya!

But if you're not so comfy there.. come on out, the grass is greener and the tea is sweeter.

I totally agree!!! I did this in a couple of areas of my life. I have written a couple of books on basic horse training and had my photographer come out to do a photo session. It was my very first one ever like that and I was nervous to begin. But by the end I was comfortable and even did a second one the next week.

I also have started this with internet marketing. I have wanted to get going on the internet for about a year now and just couldn't find the right system that I really believed in and would help guide, teach, and direct me. I did find that program and am now taking daily action (sometimes just a little baby step for the day) towards my goals for the week.

My motivation is what Earl Nightingale said in his book The Greatest Discovery. "The time is going to pass anyways, do you want to be successful at the end of it or where you are now just years down the road?" I think about if I had started this 1 even 2 years ago and how my life would be different now and I take that and put in forward. If I start now, think about how different and better it will be this time next year. And like Earl Nightingale said, the time will pass either way.

If you're not pushing the limits of your comfort zone then your not striving to reach the greatest heights you can.

or as J. K. Rowling puts it....

"Some failure in life is inevitable. It is impossible to live without failing at something unless you've lived so cautiously that you might as well not lived at all..in which case you've failed by default"

True. Though there's a difference between the things you want to do but are just afraid to do so don't, and the things you don't do cause you genuinely dislike them and have no desire to be good at them. I'd rather outsource the things I dislike like cold calling, tech stuff etc.

I am. In some ways I am. When it comes to my career I have this doubt. When I'm about to make a change there is something in me that holds me back like my fear of starting anew, and not knowing if this new endeavor will be a success or not. I actually kept on telling my friends to be fearless but I'm a coward myself. Haha..

  • Most of my life I have sought to "just make it". I had had enough of this practice finally and moved out of my comfort zone and did, indeed, get the RUSH you spoke of Kenster.

It is doubly intriguing when one comes upon it without being, talked, pushed, guided, or otherwise led to discover the "rush". I am sure your work with clients is very rewarding from time to time when they "get it".

Thanks for a post that hit the mark with me!

That's natural. I was just speaking to somebody recently about how making money and success is like food. If we have food in front of us, food becomes a want and not a need...and wants don't motivate us nearly as much as needs.

So as entrepreneurs we need to find ways to turn success into a NEED...whatever success means to us!

I too am someone who tends to develop a pattern or comfort zone in my life, but I have often pushed the envelop to force myself to do things I have dreaded. In each circumstance, it has made me a better person for the experience. I would not be in sales and marketing now if I had not faced my fears and entered a field I knew I was not hard wired for. That was 28 years ago and still going strong.

Very true indeed and something I have been pushing myself on these last few weeks. I set myself some very lofty goals and have dome very little with them as yet. I am very successful in my current business but want to break out and change my comfort zone keeps pulling me back.
I had a break through the other day when i spent some time just thinking. No reading, no learning just pouring over what I had learned and what I had to offer. So it then hit and I am banging away at my first product to launch on here in the near future to achieve your goals.
I think it's easier to spend the time acquiring more knowledge than to use it and the mind loves comfort!
The things you find most uncomfortable are the steps you need take to reach the next level.

I think everyone wants that one niche that is easy for them. They want to forgo the boulder they have to push up the mountain. Eventually if they want success they have to push that boulder

True. Thanks for this. Most of the time, we let Fear run our lives. For the longest time you've been afraid to do something and once you've really done it, you'd feel so silly being afraid of it in the first place.
