Your wish was granted. Take the time to read and make a change

From a Reddit thread in /r/zenhabits.

"Ten years from now you were given a special gift, you looked back on your life and you made a wish you could go re-live everything from this moment now without making mistakes or not making as many. To make it simple your wish was granted. You just stepped back to the point where you now sit, your memory of what happened is buried deep inside of you and I would like to be the first to welcome you back."

I think too many people want to change their lives vs. being happy with where they are now.

Make today great and do that every "today" that follows and you will have no true regrets.

Every turn you say you wish you could change would have changed who you are and where you are.

If you truly dislike who you are that much there are easier ways then time travel to erase yourself.

I agree with Aaron. You are who you are based on the choices you have made to this point. When you look back you may think that wasn't the best choice, it was still the choice you made and resulted in your life today.

If you want your future to be different make the changes you want today, because nothing will change unless you change.

      Take care

  • Wow! That is a novel concept.

I am glad my wish was granted. Now I think I will relax knowing what I now know for the past 10 years an getting to do a re-do. This is a good thing. I accept.

    Thanks for the new perspective.

Everyone in our past has affected us in one way or another, so therefore I do not think i'd change anything in my past at all.
I don't think my life would be the same if I were to change it.

Uhhh, yeah, change = not the same.

Which is Exactly why I would go back and change mine if I could.

I'd love to go back a few years and change many bad decisions then.

There is a reason and purpose why we have to go through the process and living in it. It is not a an easy way, but it does make you stronger and wiser, able to go through each of the tough parts in our life.

Doing a redo is just an escape to not go through the process of life. If I were given a chance to redo -- I would not accept it. I enjoy living my life in every choice and decision I make. Either I create a good me or a bad me. My decision making skills becomes better and wiser every single day and I don't have to be a afraid to risk on something I know is the right thing to do.

I think the story, Acres Of Diamonds, which tells us that we are standing at our own goldmine is a positive one.

i don't think that'd be a gift, that'd be a curse, because life is not fun without a few mistakes, right?

without mistakes we would not be who we are today, who would we be? maybe we did everything right but fate throws us a curve like we get hit by a car or something, can't change one thing and still get the same result can you?

it's like that twilight zone episode where the guy dies and he goes to what he thinks is heaven where he wins every hand at poker, gets all the girls, has so much money available, life becomes so boring, so in the end, the devil tells him that it's not heaven, it's actually hell.

wouldn't life be a little like that if we hadn't made any mistakes? i think it's the obstacles and our mistakes that make life fun no?

You guys are not getting it. First off there are no such things as "mistakes", only choices you do or don't like the outcome of (whatever amount of control or prediction you had in it or not). And second of all, there is no such thing as perfection. If you redo a period of time, you might be able to change around or save yourself from some very bad choices, though you will 100% still make many bad choices and perhaps different bad choices and have things happen that you don't like and wish you could of prevented. It's only a second CHANCE, not a sure thing and you don't suddenly develop clairvoyance. It's still an unpredictable life.

Only difference is you get to go back and choose some different paths you didn't take the first time and get to see where those paths would had led. Alternative choices and alternative possibilities. I'd only be experiencing a different potential life, though STILL a flawed one! In fact as soon as you change a major choice you made differently the first time, you'd be on a new path you never went through the first time, so everything from that point on would be new to you and you would have no idea about the future or what choices on that path might not be the best ones etc. So has nothing to do with being able to achieve 'perfection'.

And Apparently if scientists are on to something, we might have twin selves living in other universes with slightly different lives anyways.

"So if you look far enough, you would encounter another version of you -- in fact, infinite versions of you. Some of these twins will be doing exactly what you're doing right now, while others will have worn a different sweater this morning, and still others will have made vastly different career and life choices."
