If You Hit It Big, How Much Money Would Be Enough?

So, you made it big. How much money would you want to have? I am not talking about

your net worth: everything you've built and all your assets against your liabilities.

I am talking about Cash. How much money would you want to have your hands on at any

given moment?

    I love cars.
There are always more cars to buy.
There is always more staff to hire to take care of the collection.
There are always more buildings to buy to house the collection.

If you are working for something vs. money there really isn't ever enough. There is merely the money to use towards your next goal.

    I drive a Corvette now.
    A true exotic is next.
    Then a Lambo
    Then a McLaren
    Then.....

    You see the point.

Not quite. It's that satisfaction is the enemy of growth. If you have nothing left to strive for why do you wake up each morning? Why do you work? Simply put, "why?"

When you are satisfied there is no longer a why.

When you reach a goal it is time to set a higher one.

the real question .. that no one asks is how much money can your current mindset handle .

there is no enough ..that is only in the minds of people who think there is such a point ..

drop 50k in my hands now and i could live pretty good for me where i want to be right now..and go for 3 or 4 years without needing more

10 k right now would clear my debts get me a plain ticket and give me 6 months of nothing to worry about ..and get what i want to get going going .

what would be enough not so you get to do what you want to do most of the time

I have an answer that has real tangible 'want's and 'desire's. I want more than enough to take care of my entire family. Considering there are no kids right now, I would say $1million divided by each stored in cash so I don't have to give any taxes.

At least 100 million! With that I can create more businesses and jobs for people. I'm sure i'd lose a lot, in doing so, but i'll still have money put away for myself.

$5M - Always available to invest at the drop of a hat on anything I want to.
$5M - Always available to support not-for-profit work during a 365 day period.
$5M - Always available to do the things I want to do whenever I want to do them with those I care about.
$5M - Always available in a high-interest bank account earning the highest interest available.
$5M - To support the development of everything to do with my faith and support God's work each year.
    $5M - Just to be there...because this is a no-holds-barred exercise right?

Why $5M in each case? It's what I've been carrying around with me since I was old enough to understand the true value of cash/money, and yes, I do understand the relationship between money, value, that it can't by happiness etc, BUT, this is a direct answer to a direct question from MY perspective.

I'm not a man with expensive tastes. An amount of money where I'd earn over £20,000 a year just on the interest would see me living very comfortably.

  • It's ok for me if how much money I could take as long as if my money worth in buying house, car, basic needs for everyday living and also provide for my travel around the world then I would be contented for that.

If I were to hit it big, I would like to have enough money to survive. I wouldn't want anymore than that. Enough to help me when I'm in a VERY tough spot.. but not enough to help me when I'm just in a little bit of trouble.

I don't want to be able to get out of any situation just because I have money, I want to grow from it and work harder.

So if you think about it... I'd like to have enough money to support myself when I deserve it. But if I don't deserve it.. then I'd rather struggle.

Struggle isn't a bad thing.. you just have to know how to get out of struggle when you need to.

good thread. i set my sights on $200million, so i can start up some philantrophic dreams of mine, but then we'd need to get some more to keep on trucking, so i'd expect some return on these investments, it'd be kinda of a teach a man to fish kinda deal.

yeah but $200 would be enough to start....

I would not put a fix price here. My motivation is to make more and more for sure, but one thing is the most important to me - free time.
Now I am already rich and money is not an issue for me. However the best thing is that I have plenty of free time and I can enjoy my hobbies and spending time with family and friends.

Great ideas on this thread - my first stage number is $50,000/month passive dividend income coming in from $10,000,000 USD invested conservatively. I always think of having to make $20,000,000 to get the $10,000,000 roughly figuring half goes to taxes.

That level would allow me to re-evaluate things and be free to pick my next career - which might not be related to making money at that point.

Interesting answers this thread has! I personally don't know how much I would like to have but basically, enough to give me and my family a very comfortable life and lots and lots of free time to enjoy it with them and my personal hobbies and wants.

Geez, my goals sound conservative now. $400,000 yearly or $30,000+ monthly would allow me freedom to travel and hop from location to location until i got homesick, realized i want to settle somewhere new, and go somewhere random to buy a house.

Freedom to travel at will is the big one. And it's not really simply the air transport of the plane, it's having the funds to have absolute fun once i get there. I've done the travel on a budget stuff and one of my visualizations is travel without the worry or care of $$.

As someone else pointed out, it's always good to have greater wants/goals if you want a reason for your income to grow. A lot of the time the want for the income to grow, for the sake of growing the income just doesn't cut it over time and you get content easily.

    Not conservative at all heavysm,

They are very reasonable goals which I am sure you will reach! Keep on plugging away and Ill see you on the other side! ( I still need to get there too )

I would really be happy with a modest 1,000 a week. I have a very simple goal. I want enough money so my wife can quit her office job, so that I can pay off my fines, clean up our credit and buy a house in the Caribbean and live there with my family...and if possible I would like to eventually make enough to help out my whole immediate family tree, in laws and all. But 1,000 a week would be enough to accomplish my main goals in life right now.

$10k per month is doing well.

$30k per month is hitting it big.

If you would have asked me that question five years ago, I would have said $10k/month is hitting it big. Funny how things change.

When it comes to money, no amount is ever enough, unless you don't spend whatever you've got and just ogle at it the whole day.
