If it was physically possible...

If it was physically possible to survive on less sleep, and I mean SIGNIFICANTLY less sleep (no more than 2 hours a day), and wake up *fully* energized, would you want this?

I had this conversation with somebody: What if sleep was like sex - people love it, but you won't technically die if you don't get it. This person said the world would be a lot more chaotic, as there would no longer be a specific "down time" like there is at night. That's when I asked this question, "What if the same sleep rule applied to everyone else, EXCEPT you?"

Do you view sleep as an escape to Dreamland, where the impossible happens and none of it has to make sense, or is sleep a nagging curse? Why?

I put this in the Mind Warrior section rather than Off-Topic because I want to see how your view of sleep affects your life and your ability to accomplish the things you want to do.

Me... while there are times when Dreamland is nice, sleep is more like the nagging curse. I prefer night over day and therefore stay up all hours of the night, BUT... I hate sleeping in. Hate hate hate it. The longer I sleep in, the longer it takes me to wake up, the groggier I'll feel till then. (I did learn one coffee trick. Drink 2-3 full glasses of water before your first cup of coffee. It's soooo much more effective.)

I more often than not will blow off sleep as long as possible, feeling it gets in the way of all the projects I'm working on, then go to bed when I absolutely cannot stand it. Not the healthiest thing in the world, I know, but I'm figuring out how to cope with this particular biological need.

Thoughts? Original question reiterated: if you could survive on 2 hours of sleep and be perfectly energized, would you? Why or why not? How do you fit sleep into your schedule currently, and how do you stay energized?

You asked sort of tough question, I guess physically it's not possible. But if it is...

I would love to sleep in the early hours of the day. Work only 8 hrs and I am sure the time to enjoy life will increase significantly.

If I didn't have to sleep there could be alot more things that could have been done.... it would've been awesome!

    cool question.

I love sleep. especially during winter in a nice warm bed. Can be pretty hard to get up sometimes.
Other times ,like summertime or just bad sleep nights it's usually easier to just get up.

I always woke at 7am for school. in bed around 8.30 to read for an hour(this was days when we had no computer in house). last 2 yrs of highschool many nights i had to stay up to midnight to get accounting homework done.which sucked becuase i got tired. my own fault. i didnt start till 6.30pm.
anyway after i graduated high school..i ended up staying in this routine. bed around 11pm up at 7..or 8am. There was a time there -no job,not studying or doing volunteer work and we got handmedown bitzer of a computer and dialup. I spent hours online surfing and sitting in chatrooms(circa 2003) haha wow things have changed.
Sometimes i'd go to bed anywhere from 10pm-2am and wake at 8am to check what was happening in the forum i was hanging out in at the time.
Things changed when i started studying, back to waking up at 7am. ..

anyway these days since i stopped going to tafe I'm staying up till 1am or 2am and not getting out of bed until 1030am...
I know i need 9hours sleep to function.
It takes me a good 2hours to properly wake up sometimes.
I think my sleep patterns are making me unproductive to a degree.
I feel like i don't have enough hours in day.

anyway,I don't think i could survive of 2hrs sleep. My aunty does. She is a nurse and just hyper.
she;s had 2 kids but wants others to take of them while she goes and works 15hours straight then her latest thing is running marathons..she won the gold coast or sunshine coast marathon last year (or some marathon or triathlon event, there is quite a few). She like her father just thrive on going non-stop. She is living proof in my eyes it can be done. But injoke in family..they think she might crack soon.
Seriously, how long can a person go for on 2hours sleep every 24hours?

so with the water before drinking coffee..i take it,that helps to wake up properly?
sometimes i drink 3 coffees within 45min..LOL usually my throat is sore when i wake up,by third coffee its stopped. lol
