....Do you still work as hard as you do when you're healthy?

I'm having some major health problems. I find myself feeling guilty for not putting in my normal 6 hours days. But the pain is just too much and based on what doctors say it's going to be awhile (4 to 8 weeks ) before the pain goes way.

What do you do when you're sick? Any advice would be nice.. please and thank you.

When you're sick your body is telling you something.
It could be as simple as to slow down. It could be giving you a stronger message if you aren't taking care of yourself.

It's important to remember that your body needs lots of energy to get well. That's one of the reasons you're so tired when your sick. Your body is pulling all the resources it needs to heal. That leaves little for you to do other things.

Listen to your body. Cut down your schedule dramatically if needed. How many hours of work can you manage? It might be how many minutes can you manage.

If your body needs the time to heal then you are doing a dis-service to yourself by not taking that time off. It'll take longer to get well.

Be good to yourself... and let go of the guilt. It lowers your immune system.

Take care of yourself. You deserve it!

It is indeed very hard to stay focused and be productive when you are sick.

Try to work in short bursts with frequent breaks. You can keep up your energy levels and ensure that you stay completely focused on the task at hand. For example, you can work for 25 minutes, and then take break for five minutes. This gives you much needed rest while also giving you a sense of accomplishment.

Meditate, take time off, rest, sleep and slow down.

Eat healthy.. cut back on sugar, alcohol, junk food, drink lots of water, eat raw foods, organic, veggies and fruits, take supplements..... try a new diet... Your immune system is low and your body needs nutrients to repair itself. You are what you eat.

Destress, listen to good music, hang out with friends...be good yourself.

may i ask what kind of pain it is ..doctors advice is general given based on the usual person they see ..

is the pain a result of the way you work

Taking some or maybe a lot of short breaks will do. When you feel that you got enough energy for work then do it, but once you feel tired or the sickness kicking in, take a good rest.

  • What a kind post. I am so sorry to hear of your medical condition. And dealing with pain as the main issue is very distracting, quite difficult.

Since nothing comes to mind to help your circumstance, I send you blessings and the heartiest wish for your super rapid recovery. May you be very well soon. God Willing.

When I sick I simply rest to recharge and relax. There's no other choice but to listen to your doctor's advise especially if you want to return to work as soon as you can.

I do illness like they do on the TV. I wrap up in bed with a a bevy of drinks on the bedside table and either read a book or run through a season of one of my favourite TV shows. Giving your body chance to recharge helps to prevent the illness lingering.

If I am sick, then I need to feel at least mostly better before I can go back to working hard again.

Honor your body and what it tells you first and foremost. If sitting outside in the sunlight sounds divine, then do it. I think our natural intuition clues us in to little things that are best for the body, mind and soul. There is no need to feel guilty about an illness; do whatever you can to feel happy instead. Be happy for being able to rest, and so on, because a good mood leads to faster healing. The mind and body are connected in far more ways than many people realize, as I keep learning over and over again.

Thank you all so much for the helpful advice! I needed to hear it all. My fear of taking a rest is that my income will lower and soon people will forget about me completely. I want to write so badly and I want to build my list and I need to support my family but with this pain it's just harder than ever.

I will take all your advice and get as much rest as needed. Maybe work one hour a day instead of the normal 6. Thank you all so much again for the great advice. I really hope I get better soon.

I would rather not publicly say what the health problem I currently have is. Thank you for your advice.

i understand there are things even i don't share on forums ..

the idea is though with the gadget we have today and the software ..there are ways to work and stay productive .. if you can't sit down and type away at a keyboard ..

not to sound to woo woo.. but the pain itself may be there to make you think of different ways to work ..

if you are a writer their are probably always ideas just popping into your head ..with a good cellphone there is a voice to text option . so anytime you have the thoughts instead of wreiting them down ..or typeing them out or recording them and having to play it back later then write it down .. pull out the phone get the idea down and email it to a special email address ..later on piece them all together and edit ..

just ideas ..if you want to write ..it you may be feeling more bad not being able to ..than the other repercussions of not being able to work

I work as much as I feel like doing and do not worry about.

One of the great things about having an Internet business is you are open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, whether you feel like working or not.

      Hope you feel better.

I tend not to get to seriously ill very often thankfully. However when I do get sick and ill and generally just feel pretty terrible, I usually take a break for a bit and relax. I always still work on things, but don't put in the same amount of hours as I would normally. It's good for your brain and body to take a step back in times like this.
