Motivation is what drives one toward a goal, what keeps one going when things get tough, the reason one gets up early to exercise or work late to finish a project.
So motivation, in its finest form, is a way for you to want to do something you would otherwise not do.

The best motivation, then, is to discover a way to really want something, to get excited about it, to be passionate about it enough to get after it with true action. When first starting out it is very important to make a good first effort because that first successful effort can bring on further Momentum. And, many of us know the forceful power of Momentum.

· Start Small ~ choose ridiculously small tasks as initial goals. In this way one builds momentum and confidence. Almost any goal can be achieved in small segmented steps: baby steps will chew away the greatest distances.

· One Task ~ make a list if you are wise and choose one task at a time in the segmentation of achieving your overall goal. Focus all your energy on accomplishing that one task. Don't get dragged away from that focus.

· Know Why ~ examine your motive for doing what you are doing. Become clear on all your reasons for undertaking your work. It is preferable to know you are being motivated to produce for a higher cause than simply self achievement. If you are doing your work for your family it is one of those higher causes. That strengthens your motivation all the more.

· Passion ~ this is something you absolutely have to have. This is something you want as much as air. You must feel it, live it, see it, believe it, eat it, drink it, breath it. The feeling of having it must become palpable. Get in touch with the feelings it will create upon accomplishment!

· Announce ~ find ways to make your goal known to those whom you love and respect. This can also spread to more public announcements such as among club members or extended family and friends. Once this commitment is made more public it will become motivating inducing. You'll want more to deliver.

· Spark Positive Emotion ~ motivation is self-created when one reads and researches about the goal being attempted. Your view of the outcome might have been inspired by other greats who have gone before, but it is up to you to carry on the excitement and count the benefits of fulfilling the promised goal.

· Make A Date ~ make a date with yourself sometime in the immediate future like a week or two out. Make a plan to absolutely begin the project or goal on that day. This will build anticipation and increase motivation to a good pitch. Don't overlook this powerful "good starter" tip.

· Make A Sign ~ post a really conspicuous one line goal statement at all your familiar haunts. Keep up the energy, the excitement, the reminders!

“Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal.” - Henry Ford

Wonderful post! Spark positive emotion - probably my favorite. It's good to start your day with positivism because if you are down the moment you wake up, it will continue until you end your day. No matter how bad your day can become, you can always find something positive in it no matter how small.
