Who Do You Admire Most and Why

Everyone admires at least one person, but most of us admire more than one person in different areas of life. For example in health we may admire one person, but in the financial world we admire someone completely different.

But if you had to pick just one person who you admire over all, who would that person be, and Why? The person could be real, fictional, alive or dead.

If you could choose just one person, who would it be and Why?

Wow, I thought this would be easy to answer, but there are so many...
Although he has fallen in grace in the last few years the one person that influenced me a great deal when I was younger in the power of your mind, what you can do with your body, and the amazing power of belief was Arnold Schwarzenegger. Here was a man that overcame great odds and ridicule to become not only an all start bodybuilder but a box office mega star. Just goes to show you what you can do when you really believe in yourself and never give up.

Hahahaha well, my answer doesn't exactly jive with this crowd, so to speak, but what the heck, let's give it a go.

I often find that I actually feel really sorry for most of the people that I admire.

My college teacher whom I admired for his strength and blunt honesty died of esophageal cancer. Walt Disney and Miyamoto are amazing people who are unparallelled in their craft and creativity, and yet they have no worthy successors, etc.

Because of this, the only people whom I admire who I don't feel sorry for are fictional characters, because their stories - usually - end up being happy in some way or another.

Of those, the winner would be Kyoko Mogami from Skip Beat.

She is entirely naive of the world, and has a thought process which, while very logical, is COMPLETELY not based on reality. She is talented, overly-humble, and willing to do anything (moral) to achieve her goal, which is simply just to be better at her trade. She actively fights her demons (most of which she makes up) every second of every day, and is constantly working to improve herself. Not only that, but she has an almost-constantly-positive attitude, and has the ability to fit into different personalities at will (albeit through her acting).

This, however, is why I admire her: she may not realize it, but she is free. She is free to be completely, 100% honest, because she doesn't know any better. She is free to be herself, because her crazy sense of the world doesn't register that she's abnormal; she has no idea. She is who she is, and is completely oblivious to everything else.

And what's more, everyone loves her BECAUSE of these traits. Granted, this is fiction, but still... to be able to live, function, and succeed in a world where you can be that honest as a celebrity, no less, AND still be accepted...

That's why I admire her. She is who she is, and she is accepted for it.

    It's such a simple concept, but in its own way, so complex. ^_^;

Interesting thread...difficult answer though. When it comes to internet marketing one person I admire is Jim Cockrum. There are many wonderful people in the IM world but for me Jim is the first choice.

      Cheers

I know it's easier to pick a fictional character because like you say, the real ones all have some flaw or another. I know the fictional character that influenced me the most was Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan series.

I admired Tarzan's values and simple code of honor. The series also got me to love reading, which helped me become better educated, improved my spelling, and increased my vocabulary.

If it wasn't for that series I probably would never have consumed so many books. To date I've read over 2000 books and prefer a good book over a good movie any day because the one thing it lead to is a well developed imagination, which is key in the creation process.

You have asked a question that is not asked very often and when asked brings up numerous thoughts. I could write down a number of people who seem to have character and are honorable people and seem to be successful. I will list one who I admire more than all others. His name is "Jesus" He lived many years ago but what he taught is still appropriate today. For example put others needs before your own( our world would be a better place if more of us did that. He also taught us that we all make mistakes but we can become better if we never give up and keep improving. When possible pay attention to people around us and when needed reach out a helping hand and "lighten their load" I could go on more but will stop with these examples. I hope we all take time to "give back" as we go along this path called "life" and I especially hope everyone has success and happiness along the way as well.

I appreciate all the posts here and why you admire the people you named. I also admire many of these. So instead of giving you a list of people I admire most, I want to give a name of someone I am admiring right now. Jimmy Kimmel! I admire him for producing Lie Witness News because it reveals the facade so many people try to live behind. Sometimes I feel a little sorry for people who are being videoed being dishonest, but that's their choice now, isn't it? I actually do some reviews of Lie Witness News on my blog post so my attention to Kimmel's work is fairly recent.

I do not admire anyone specifically, but I do tend to admire those that are humble even amid great success.

I admire the fictional character in the movie 'Kick Ass'. His name is Dave Lizewski. Just an ordinary high school kid who had enough guts to put himself 'out there' in his quest to become a super hero.

As far as real people go I've learned to be careful who you admire; they're probably more screwed up than you think!

....that seems to be truer every day.

I too seem to admire humble people. I have a friend a copywriter who gave up a good offline career and chanced his arm becoming a copywriter and over the course of 10+ years has become well-known in his trade and is paid handsomely for his work.

The fact is he doesn't do it for the money (although I'm sure he likes it). He has modest house that allows him the peace to work from home on his own floor. However still can have lunch with his kids.

He had the same car bought second hand for several years and recently decided to buy a new one and ended buying the same model (but was excited by the new features that had been added).

He never talks about money and suspect he only tell me and a few others what he really earns as we ask. Because the amounts he talks about would make other people very jealous.....indeed.

He is all about the family and has stayed grounded when he could have any lifestyle he could choose I suspect.

I've recently decided to concentrate on IM full-time and my friend is truly a great role model on how to succeed and treat success.

I've known this guy since I was 5 and he still one of my best friends.
