Question regarding Hypnosis

Hi,

I'm creating my own hypnosis tape (that I will listen to myself) and I'm wondering this:

Should I say the affirmations as "I am a billionaire" or "You are a billionaire"?

Does it matter?

A|B test; use each for 1 month, see how your reports look.

I think that 3rd person (You) has a more powerful influence than 1st person, but if you cant decide, do both.

Did research on this years ago. Nothing formal, just serious checking for myself. It was decided that if you say it in the first person, “I am a _______.” Then it is easier for the client to just repeat the affirmation so that they say it to themselves as themselves. If you were to say, “You are ________.” Then if the listener doesn’t change it to first person then it is easy for them to just be practicing giving complements to others. The listener is saying, “you are _________.” to other people.

Saying the affirmations in the first person then only has the next objection which is the tone of voice of the voice of the speaker you use. Are they believable by your target client? Does your target client respond better to a male or female voice, speaking strongly or softly, etc.

You may also want to do a tape on how to produce their own hypnosis affirmations recording as well. That was one of the last ones I did before moving on.

Remember affirmations only work to a point.

And if you want my thorough critique on hypnosis itself I can show you that as well. Spent twenty five years studying psychology and personal development to find what works, what doesn’t, why some things work for some people at some times and not for other people – even at the right time.

“Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe the mind of man can achieve.”
    Every single time.

Third person. Your self awareness is a frontal lobe function which also controls the critical factor which needs to be bypassed for the affirmations to be accepted by the unconscious (where beliefs are stored) and accepted.

The affirmation is too concrete, you need to use some linguistic ambiguity as a frame softener or the conscious mind will send out a self referential reality "ping" and you will drop out of trance.

A combination of 1st, 2nd and 3rd persons works well.

I am so grateful I am feeling better today.

You are so grateful you are feeling better today.

Svedski is so grateful he is feeling better today.

This covers all the ways your mind thinks of you as a person and enhances your repetition in a natural way, so you don't need things like mala beads or a rosary to keep track of your repetitions.

I would go with talking to yourself in the first person "I am...".

However I would say that the affirmation "I am a billionaire", if that wasn't just a random example, isn't a very powerful one. Unless you are a billionaire then you know instantly that you're lying to yourself.

A better affirmation on a similar track would be "I will become a billionaire" teamed with something like "I will work hard to achieve my goal".

    Thanks for all the inputs.

I've tried this out last night. Actually, I went in to a pretty good trance but as soon as my first person affirmations started (in my regular voice), I dropped out of trance (like Memetics said). At that point, I just became self-conscious.

All of hypnosis works by suspending the minds critical factor long enough to generate an emotional response and then leading it to where you want to go.

If at any time the critical factor triggers then the trance is gone. The critical factor evolved to deal with novel situations which the unconscious mind has no heuristics (emotional responses) to deal with, but also as an exaption it became the gatekeeper of the unconscious to make sure that just any old rubbish wasn't accepted by the unconscious, as the faulty program could run amok and cause our evolutionary (tried and tested) emotional responses to react in the wrong manner.

You can overload the the critical factor by confusing it- in which case the unconscious will boot up for extra processing power to solve the confusion- but in the ops case as he himself has created the induction he wouldn't be able to surprise himself so the induction is a standard one.

If you're writing an induction you must use either linguistic ambiguity or pace the reality of the subject so the critical factor has nothing concrete to push against; it just goes with the flow.

If I were to write: "You're feeling tired now" Then you're critical factor would say "No I'm not, what's are you talking about about memetics?" it sends out a reality ping like a sonar to your body and disconfirms the suggestion.

However... If I was to write "As you're on your computer looking at this Warrior forum post your eyes are following these words upon the screen back and forth from line to line perhaps you've noticed as you travel from word to word maybe it gets a little more tiring to do so as some words maybe, seem as if they want you to slow down and linger a little longer just to let your eyes have a rest in the spaces between the words which tire your eyes the most, which means when you next blink to clear your eyes you could understand that you feel a little tired anyway because reading helps eventually to slow the mind and possibly you can feel that now if you're not too tired?"

      WAKE UP.

Notice how the induction was composed.

1/ Reality pacing. Saying things which are, or must happen then linking the suggestion to them ie "Looking at the post","On your computer", "reading the words", "Blinking"

      2/ Ambiguity, "Perhaps", "Maybe","Possibly".

      3/Suggestion presupposition. "Perhaps you've noticed","Which means","You could understand"."Helps".

4/Minimum punctuation, one large paragraph to help the flow.
