What Qualification is Required to Succeed in Life?

As a budding entrepreneur, I never thought a university degree or any academic qualification would make much of a difference. It's not that I think it's no good or that it's worthless, I just thought it's not necessary if you're aspiring to be an entrepreneur.

So, what then is the qualification one needs to become a successful entrepreneur? As a matter of fact, what is the qualification that not only will help you succeed in business, but also in life?

I have found the answer in the best-selling book, The One Minute Millionaire by Mark Victor Hansen and Robert G. Allen.

"The only diploma that counts is a million-dollar idea. The only qualification needed is a burning desire. The only credential required is fearless action. Everything else can be borrowed or bought."

I think this is absolutely brilliant and I feel a compelling need to share it with all you warriors here. I hope it has inspired you just like how it has inspired me.

Cheers~

I think he is missing a key component here and that's releasing negative or limiting beliefs, because no matter how much action you take or how great your idea is, if you don't believe in yourself or in the possibility of what you can do, then you won't succeed.

i believe it comes down to self- discipline.

S-D creates persistence, motivation, and adaptability.
it allows you to handle set backs, and disappointment.
it also allows you handle success, and change.

I am too of the view that academic qualification only polish your vision but not a restriction to your business or living activities. If you collect the stats, you will see none of the highly successful people around the globe are highly qualified. What they have is a strong will power to stay ahead...

If your definition of highly successful is very rich, you may be right.

Some people have a slightly broader definition of success

A burning desire to succeed, the ability to focus and to take action seem to be the qualities displayed by most successful entrepreneurs. Unfortunately qualities such as these can't be bought.

At one time ruthlesness was probably a prerequisite but now you can succeed online without it, thank goodness!

Success is relative to the individual, and therefore how important qualifications are to the individual is also relative.

      I define success as this:

"Doing what you want to do, when you want to do it."

If what you want to do is spend your life as a Medical Doctor (a real medical one, not just a Dr Noob) then clearly you're not going to get anywhere without a qualification. Of course, it is possible to self-study and become as good or even better than MD's with qualifications, but you won't get hired. To succeed as an MD, a qualification is essential.

I do however subscribe to the idea that if what you want to do is not dependent upon a qualification, then I'd rather substitute the years it takes to gain a qualification for years of self-driven, independent mastery of the thing you want to do.

Absolutely! That's why people need to determine early in their life what they want to do and what they want to achieve so that if it doesn't require a degree to achieve what they want to achieve, they won't have to waste a few years of their life studying and pursuing something that is totally irrelevant.

        Cheers~

Doing what I want when i want is true freedom for me.

Success and happiness are easily achievable when you have freedom of time. After all time is the great equalizer, everything is given the same amount of time per day.

Is your time free or is your time sold? You'll never get back the time you sold.

I agree with most of the above posts.

If you are talking about being successful in the traditional "professional" sense, such as doctors, lawyers, accountants, then a college and or university degree with letters or initials after your name is very helpful.

For those of us who do not intend on working in a field where traditional academic degrees are needed it is important for us to have a positive mental attitude, persevere, belief in ourselves and our ability to create the life we want for ourselves, hard work, excellent communication skills, and a strong willingness to learn.

I'll have to side with Dr. Noob on this one.

What if your hearts desire is to wander the world, with a few books in a backpack, just experiencing life?

There have been many hobo's, wanderers, and drifters, who were completely happy in their lifestyle, and therefore are successful. Success can only be defined by the individual.

These same people who are "successful" hobo's, might be completely miserable living the life of success most people aspire to have.

For the other side of the coin, a college degree is simply education and credentials. The same thing could be said of anyone who diligently learns the lessons on the Warrior Forum. You have acquired an education that would put many marketing graduates to shame. (You just don't have a piece of paper to prove it, unless those little green things in your wallet count.)

Putting aside personal factors such as self-esteem and motivation, I think the most important thing for a new entrepreneur is twofold:

    1. Be able to follow the systems that successful entrepreneurs teach and..

    2. Be willing to modify the system to your unique situation.

Others may disagree but, my thought is that the most effective way to become successful is to model success. Later, when you've become successful, experiment all you want.

    Hey, great quotation MarkFoo76.

For me, most of the time when I'm succeeding, is when I'm taking action even though I'm afraid. As Mark Twain documented: "Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not lack of fear."

To answer your question, I would say that with a happy heart and optimistic outlook, a person can accomplish anything. Personally, all I want is a peaceful mind. However, that's not for me to decide. :-(

I suppose all a person can do is endeavour to do good and bring happiness into people's lives. Because when we weigh it all up, that's the only thing that really matters.

Everything else can be borrowed or bought except one ultimate element - YOU: The Real You and one and only qualification - YOUR BELIEF SYSTEM. These cannot be borrowed or bought.

If the belief system you have now does not support your success you can create one that supports it, but only you can do it to yourself. It is always with you, within you, you just have to rediscover it.

    • The secrets to success. Just remembered one of my all-time recommended books: The Millionaire Mind. There, Dr. Thomas Stanley, author, came up with a list of what successful businessowners call as "Success Factors," which essentially played an important role in growing their humble ventures:

Being honest. Honesty not only relays a person's ability to honor his commitment but most importantly his character as a whole. Success, in whatever endeavor, is always a direct result of good character, reflected by his actions and dealings.

Being well disciplined. Samthor has this point on the top of his list. Discipline is all about staying focused and being committed to goals and life dreams.

Getting along with people. I believe this is the first skill that any business owner will be proud of to have in their list. Just like the rest of us here, it is through our network that we develop our skills, earn the trust of other people, and most importantly learn what we need to learn in order to succeed.

A supportive spouse (or partner). Need to explain more? A helping hand, conscience, friend, lover, and the true source of our joy. The person that hands us a glass of milk when we stay up late to meet a deadline. And, the only person who truly cares for you to turn off the computer when you can no longer do it yourself.

Working harder - and working smart. Business is not only about efficiency and effectiveness but a business owner's ability to wisely use, if not exploit, resources to work for in his favor.

I think that is totally true. The moment you think you need "qualifications" you are putting yourself in the "I'm not good enough" mode, and wishing for "outside approval".

None of the great entrepreneurs were professors, or even college graduates. Education is to make people obedient, not to make free sprited entrepreneurs.

That's true in my experience. Although qualification can be a necessity in certain profession (physicians, lawyers etc), it can, more often than not, be a baggage for a budding entrepreneur.

The mindset of 'I'm not good enough'/'I need better qualifications' being the primary culprit.
Also, qualification can sometimes put you in danger of 'half-knowledge' where you're exposed to a lot of things that you don't know and think that you don't know enough, so it creates the fear of failure and stops you from taking action.

To inspire Warriors more I'm writing one more quote with this kind of idea
"Effort only fully releases its reward after a person refuses to quit." Napoleon Hill

Actually thanks to desire you can start any action, you can learn any skill or knowledge that you need to create a brilliant idea. But when you try to make your idea com true you can meet a lot of barriers. Little desire in this case leads to refusal. That's why winners don't quit. I believe it.

Constant education. Inside and outside the system. Go to school and get that kind of education you can in school. Just don't stop when you get a degree.

The Most successfull people are always learnign new stuff. Learning stuff they can turn into improvment in their business. Building and improving skills.

In many cases a lot of people leave school because it is not teaching them what they need to know. The value of degrees will drop faster than any other currency in the next few years.

The Value of an education will pay off. If it gives you skills and puts you closer to mastering something.

    One word: Harmony

We live in a universe that is filled with parallels....so where do you look? At the very core of our physical reality...so atoms and how they bond.

Then look to see if humans operate in the same manner...you'll be pleasently surprised.

I'm writing an ebook series within the next couple of months and it's mostly based on this concept. I've been studying success and game theory for a couple years and this is my end result.

There's my lead...the core principle of success. You can study this yourself or just wait for me to sell my books and work from there lol...might take a while though...I'm not in this for money (: I just teach so I can learn more effectively.

Desire will take you there but using harmony is in the process is incredibly efficient compared to overpowering your mind to get there.

All achievement, including every fortune ever built, have their beginning in an idea. The wealth comes from turning the idea from something we can see in our minds eye alone into something that serves other people, and for which they are willing to pay. This is done through auto-suggestion, organized planning, master-mind association and an inner harmony between the thoughts of your mind and the actions and achievements of your life.

You literally become and achieve what you think about all day long. To control your life, control your thoughts.

        1. Thoughts Are Things
Whatever the mind can conceive and believe man is capable of bringing into reality.

        2. Desire
There are no limitations except those we set ourselves. Both poverty and riches are the direct results of our thoughts.

        3. Faith
Ideas are being transformed into huge fortunes all around us. Using the medium of faith, you can join that group of people with great achievements.

        4. The Sixth Sense
Creative part of the mind creating hunches and inspiration. Can be enhanced and refined.

        5. Autosuggestion
Man is the master of his own destiny because he has the power to influence what he thinks about using the techniques of autosuggestion.

        6. Specialized Knowledge
The intelligent direction of specialized knowledge is the most frequent way of amassing wealth.

        7. The Brain
Capable of both broadcasting and receiving thoughts directly to or from other people.

        8. Imagination
The imagination is the workshop in which all plans can be fashioned and prepared for action.

        9. Decision
Successful people have the habit of reaching decisions quickly and changing them slowly if ever. Successful people have conquered procrastination.

        10. Organized Planning
Everything created begins in the form of desires which are taken into the workshop of the imagination for proper organization and planning.

        11. Power Of The Master Mind
You automatically take on the habits and power of the people you associate with. Control this by forming a Master Mind group who can assist you to achieve your dreams.

        12. Persistence
Will-power, desire and persistence are essential for the transmuting of desires into monetary equivalents.

        13. The Mystery Of Sex Transmutation
Sex transmutation involves the transfer of sex desire into a motivating force for financial achievement.

        14. The Subconscious Mind
A vast reservoir storing every impulse or thought received through the five senses.

        15. The Six Ghosts Of Fear
The master key that unlocks the door to life's bountiful riches is the privilege of creating in your own mind a burning desire to achieve. The satisfaction that comes to all who conquer self and force life to pay whatever they demand is overwhelming.

other options are to give up, then settle with what you got (conscious decision) and consider yourself ok because you succeeded in surviving
        or develop a delusion(sub-conscious decision).

        stark, but true IMO

great line from the 1980's movie flashdance : "if you give up on your dreams, you die"

the old (as opposed to current western cultural ideals), is
What are you willing to die for?

current cultural verbage : What are you willing to work for, face adversity on, and never give up for?

Darren is correct, success is subjective, and most do not realize, they are already highly successful, according to their own unique set of values-period. if we change the definition of success in business by measuring how much money one makes and use one million as the first step, then i imagine around 98%-99% of the above comments who disagree worthless. i DO mean that lovingly, asking someone who has never made money about how to make money is crazy. who cares what someone's opinion is of something they have never done, and may nevere do? he is absolutely correct to, a white hot burning desire is necessary, backed by a huge "why", to overcome ones own self, and gain momentum, overcome adversity, to achieve the 7-figure dream. the formula is simple, everyone knows what it is-doing what you know to do is what will count in the end. quitters never win, winners never quit. instead of being a "big-shot", i learned to be a little shot that kept shooting. best wishes and prosperous regards, Dr. Mike

In my mind, you need a few things. First, to be completely honest with yourself. That way you will be honest about what you want in life, irrelevant of what is considered success by the masses.

Second, the ability to fail, and fail again. Our failures are our greatest teachers. I know, much easier said then done.

And finally, to realize that success is not a destination, rather it is a journey. Never be satisfied or feel "complete", as no matter what you are going for there is always more to be achieved.

Persistence, persistence, persistence. You learn so much when you continue going at something. You have to fail quite a bit but eventually you'll get there if you stick with something that you're passionate about. Also, I've noticed things come a lot quicker to people who learn from the best. Always strive to learn from someone who is already where you want to be.

It doesn't matter whether you are degree-qualified or not. The same success principles apply. Firstly your mind needs to be free of all the limiting beliefs that may stand between yourself and success. Secondly, you must take responsibility for your own success. Thirdly, action is required, and not just work but actual inspired action. Fourthly absolute self-belief, and last but not least, not giving up. I have been trying my luck at internet marketing for a year and a half now. many people would have given up by now but I am determined to make it happen for me.

It is also interesting to note that nobody has mentioned anything about how to obtain these 'qualifications'. I find NLP to be the most effective, but there are many things to try. Good luck with your quest.

This is a very strong question with many different answers. The first thing you must find out is what is it that you consider would make you a success. PMA or Positive Mental Attitude detemines most of your success. Your mind is a very powerfu tool, if you believe you can do it, most times you can.

Also, a great way to become successful is the company you keep. "Birds of a Feather, Stick Together." This has always proved to be true. Stay around those that have the same outlook as you do on life. This will help keep you in the right direction with what you are trying to achieve.

Keep your brain ideas cooking. Obviosly, not every idea will turn into success and other ideas will be thrown out after deeper consideration but always keep your ideas flowing. Every great concept, plan, strategy comes from your initial idea to make something better. Take time to analyze your ideas and sooner or later you will stumble upon something great.

There are obviously more but I truly hope this helps.

I believe this is a quote from Jim Rohn, forgive me if I'm wrong

"A formal education will make you a living; Self eduction will make you a fortune"

I personally believe in this quote as in my case its definitely self education that has impacted my life the most in many positive ways, and continues to do so.

It was self education that got me to:

    Remove all limiting beliefs
    Believe in myself completely
Go for my goals and passions
    Achieve a postive Mindset
And most importantly just Be happy

But it only starts with education, in the end it always boils down to ACTION.
And that means continuing to take ACTION until goal is achieved.

I will never stop learning...and doing..

trick question. everyone is successful in their lives inherently, period. you are all successful at being YOU, and you are doing you, perfectly, you cannot mess it up. on making money in business from home for yourself? those items are essential. i got my degree well after a couple of 7 figure results in home biz. besides, what "higher education" is more important than love? a white hot burning desire, backed by FEARLESS action, is a factual recipe for business building, offline that is. i am sure most principles will spill over into the online arena equally. nice stuff, hope your next post contains results of putting this ideal into your own actions. prosperous regards, Dr. Mike

Amen to that. I just found out that a solo ad I paid for was actually sending traffic to a domain that I forgot to redirect to my affiliate link. Lol I lost out on a lot of clicks, and possible subs and sales. Before I would have blew up and been real depressed but I'm starting to realize you can't invest your whole heart into something and expect no disappointments. I believe the law of detachment is very essential for success in any area of your life as well.

The greatest change for me came when I realized that I can achieve what ever I
wanted. Nothing is impossible. Then when you fully accept that you can, you decide
what you want to do, set a goal, and work on it until you achieve it. You do only
what you want and don't do what you don't want - that's what freedom means to me.

I think this quote from Henry Ford explains it perfectly:

"Whether you think you can - or whether you think you can't - you are probably right."

You can never develop unless you are well learned. However much you may think that the education system didn't really help you, it makes you grow into a rounded person, and actually the interaction you get with the rest at that early age makes you develop in other areas too. I haven't read this book yet, I'll get it, but like Philip Baker says, the more you get educated, the more you learn that you don't know!
