Ready to Kickstart Your Life in 2014?

I recently wrote an article on achieving and sustaining productivity, which is undoubtedly essential to your overall success. I figured I'd share it here with fellow Warriors who could use a pick me up.

"The tough tasks can stop you from being all you can be. Ironically, they are also the biggest cause of your success."

Let's face it: Sometimes being productive feels like a task in itself, effectively turning the actual work into an impossible goal. Some days we feel like taking on the weight of the world without breaking a sweat, while other times even getting out of bed is nothing short of a painful, never-ending drag.

Why do we keep falling off the wagon? We know that the end-results are well-worth the initial effort, but somehow our lack of productivity still beats our desire to be successful. Thus, the following ways to be more productive should help you start your day with a bright smile and end it with flying colors.

Create a Plan

Every task must start at the beginning. Sometimes we tend to get ahead of ourselves and focus on too many things simultaneously without any real planning in advance. Instead of keeping your head disorganized, grab a piece of paper and create a to-do list. Note down everything you would like to accomplish today, and most importantly, ensure you stick with it - no matter what.

Set Realistic Expectations

We often feel like getting fast results; after all, it is practically encoded in our mentality to get the very best right here, right now. This is the reason why many diet plans earn millions of dollars each year, as its creators essentially offer you the world for very minimum effort on your part. Sadly, real life doesn't work this way, but this doesn't mean it has to be all work and no satisfaction, either. To get the best of both worlds, you must set attainable and realistic expectations when creating your daily plan. If you are a writer, for example, don't aim for 10,000 words on a daily basis if this task causes you to lose momentum by the third day of the week. Develop your plans based on your specific abilities and execute them accordingly.

Eliminate Distractions

This one is blatantly obvious, yet people tend to work while watching TV and texting their best friend in between work. Shockingly, many times we don't even realize that we are only hurting and distracting ourselves. Eliminating distractions is especially important if you work from home, as friends and relatives are often under the mistaken impression that you are available at any point during the day. For best results, it is best if you incorporate an "office-like" schedule and avoid all calls and guest visits during your work hours. After all, you are working on a job, aren't you?

Get Started

A surefire way to become more productive simply involves starting head-on without over-thinking the tasks at hand. Are you feeling too lazy to put on your sneakers and head over to the gym? You would be shocked knowing just how good you'll feel once you're actually there. Suddenly you realize that you - and only you - are your own worst enemy. Remember this every time you don't have the energy (or rather, the willpower) to achieve the things you want to do most.

Execute Difficult Tasks First

Getting through difficult tasks is one of the biggest causes for procrastination, preventing you from being more productive in your everyday life. Think about it: How many times have we said, "I will do that later, or I will start that tomorrow?" The tough tasks can stop you from being all you can be. Ironically, they are also the biggest cause of your success. That is, as long as you learn to work with them, not against them.

Love What You Do

Looking for the simplest way to be more productive? Be a fan of your work. There is nothing more discouraging than waking up dreading the day ahead and thinking of ways to avoid completing those taunting goals. Thus, it is highly suggested that you become passionate about your work and befriend it; look forward to accomplishing your tasks and you will love yourself for it at the end of each day. Think about the end-results and where you want to be. This is very important.

Reward Yourself

Remember, life is not all about work. Give yourself a nice treat at the end of the week for obeying your true potential and sticking to your tasks and goals. Becoming more productive requires us to look forward to some fun and games; otherwise we will abandon all tasks because they bring nothing but blood, sweat and tears. Think about that tasty food you can have or that nice sauna that relaxes you at the end of the week. This alone will motivate you to stick to your plan from the very beginning to the very end. I guarantee it.

Ready to Kick-start Your Life?

These days we have gotten somewhat spoiled and expect many things on a silver platter; we can blame this behavior on the TV remote, fast cars, the internet and other conveniences. However, it's perfectly okay to develop this mentality, as we are also hard-working individuals and are rightfully entitled to satisfactory rewards. As implied earlier, the one and only way to have our cake and eat it too is by outlining our daily rituals while simultaneously enjoying ourselves in between.
