Great article. This is discussed in great depth in the book 'The Power of Full Engagement'. Highly recommended for the self employed.

    1. Goals reduce your current happiness.
When you're working toward a goal, you are essentially saying, "I'm not good enough yet, but I will be when I reach my goal."
The problem with this mindset is that you're teaching yourself to always put happiness and success off until the next milestone is achieved. "Once I reach my goal, then I'll be happy. Once I achieve my goal, then I'll be successful."
Haha, I've been saying this for years.

I needed this, thank you. I read something similar in Slight Edge. We are a culture raised on television and movie, we want the dramatic breakthrough, the climax.

From the cranky head of a retired process engineering manager whose main task was to design processes and systems, let me ask you, "What do you make a system for?" To accomplish an end, right? That looks goal setting to me.

Don't be taken in by the author's count of the words he has written then concluding that he has practically written book by the number of his words. That is a totally insane conclusion.
