How Petting a 400 Pound Tiger Taught Me an Invaluable Online Business Lesson

First off, check out the image attached.

That is me. And my girlfriend Kelli. Petting a 400 pound tiger in Thailand. No PhotoShopping, folks!

I was terrified to walk into the cage. I thought I'd be attacked. I cannot express how intimidating and downright terrifying it feels to see one of the world's great predators in front of you.

I believed the cats -3 of them - would kill me, and eat me.......even though they looked placid, they are monstrous, and overpowering, and freaks of nature really.....beautiful, regal, but armed to kill 2,000 animals....let alone puny humans like me lol!

400 pounds. With teeth like mini - or not mini - steak knifes, and a head wider than my upper body, and the tools and speed and power to kill me within a split second.

I have never been more nervous in my life. Yep I did it. I walked into the cage. I pet the tigers. Three of them, 400 pounders, in the enclosure, and I was chilling with them.

As an entrepreneur you will feel beyond terrified to call prospects for the first time, or to invest your life savings in a venture, or to do any one of 50 things...like hosting your first live webinar, or dealing with your first irate team member.....

The list goes on forever. But you simply have to learn that being comfortable with being uncomfortable.....

....or being willing to dive into terrifying circumstances....

...is the ONLY way to become wildly successful online.

No way around it.

The Lesson?

Dive in. Jump in. If you feel scared keep going. If I could step inside a cage with a 400 pound apex predator I can write an extra blog post tonight, or do another webinar, or so something new, and scary online....and you can too.

The globe-trotting, tiger-petting fool writing these words use to hang outside of Wawa's on weekends, work a 9-5 and hit a b-ball game here and there for kicks.

Nothing wrong with that, mind you, as I still catch a game here and there....but I was destined for bigger, and better things.....and you are too....I know.....and you have to dive into terrifying but freeing experiences to make your dreams come true.

Thoughts?

Indeed, Mike Tyson would play with a tiger often just to keep his reflexes sharp.

    Tony Montana had a Tiger

Sigfried and Roy had a tiger.

You see, everyone popular has a tiger.

So it is highly recommended to buy a tiger

      Hahaha I like that mindset.

      Mine was rented though.

      Is that OK?

I did the same thing at the Thailand Tiger park. You're whole unconscious mind is saying to you "Get the hell out you idiot!"

I remember stroking the Tiger's fur thinking it would be soft like a kids toy (It's actually wiry; sort of like bristles) and feeling rock hard rippling muscle underneath.

I said to my girlfriend "This tiger could kill us both in 4 seconds flat" But she said "Oh no it's cute, look at it's fluffy ears"....as if that made any difference?

I agree that we have to get comfortable with being uncomfortable if we want to be truly successful.

I did this in Chiang Mai as well, it is pretty intimidating. I was petting the tiger like I was supposed to and it stood up and had me cornered. Lucky he was a big lazy boy and just wanted more petting, he was almost at my chest height!

Can I just live vicariously through you...? I'm already a believer, no need to pet that big ass cat to prove it. Maybe it's because of the two house cats that currently tolerate me sharing the house with them, but I just...

Yeah, I'll just have to face another fear. My luck, the two I got now have cousins in Thailand.

Did you get any other pics of the cats? I love big cats (wouldn't step in a cage with them.) But they are some of the most beautiful, machine-like creatures on the planet. Ultimate predatory machines, yet full of grace and symmetry. If you got other pics I'd love to see 'em.

That takes guts. I prefer to go to a zoo and see the tigers safely in their cage.

You bring up a good point though. Sometimes we have to get out of our comfort zone if we want to move our business forward. That could mean different things to different people.

It usually comes down to how bad someone wants to achieve something. If they want it bad enough they will do things no matter how uncomfortable they are.

Great post Ryan, thanks. It made my day. I've always been fascinated by big cats and hope to do what you did one day. Have to step in some other "cages" first though!

Compared to petting a tiger, trying out something new in your business is definitely easier!

They're both just as scary but at least with online marketing, even if I fail, I'll have all my limbs and the chance to fight another day.

The internet is still kinder and more forgiving than a hungry tiger :p
