Think And Grow Rich's Secret

This is a spin-off of the previous thread which I created because I wanted to see if anyone got the same message that I got from Think and Grow Rich. I think it also helped that I read The Law of Success before ever reading Think and Grow Rich.

One secret from the book that people tend to overlook is that of concentrating one's mind for the attainment of knowledge that they normally would not have access to. This is not "the law of attraction" but more so the act of attuning one's mind in order to tap into a universal mind to secure knowledge from the minds of others. Napoleon Hill referred to this as telepathy. To illustrate this, Dr. Elmer Gates was mentioned and so was the story of Thomas Edison using this method to acquire the solution for successfully creating the incandescent light bulb after failing to do so more than 10,000 times.

Here's what I got from it: A person's passes a GOAL over to the subconscious mind accompanied by a burning desire and faith. As we know, we reach our subconscious mind quickest through emotion. This must be done continuously through auto-suggestion. The subconscious mind then creates a plan for that person to follow and actually guides one towards the attainment of that goal...which won't happen all at once, which is why persistence is key. The person will be led to do the right thing at the right time. One becomes opportunity-conscious and will continue on even through so-called failure because their faith will push them to persist. This is probably why knowing HOW you're going to achieve your goal is not important in the beginning.

That being said, did anyone get the same "secret"?

Yes, that's the general message I got. Tapping into the subconscious is a great way to expand your creative thinking and become more receptive to "out of the box" ideas.

That said, I don't think auto-suggestion and emotion alone are the best path to our end goals. I say "alone" because clearly this is a great tool for goal achievement. But I believe it can be improved upon. Visualization I think is a much better way to communicate with your subconscious and to give it the required input. Of course, as with any auto-suggestion bit, you have to visualize with burning desire and emotion.

    Burning desire + auto-suggestion + visualization + organized effort = success.

Well, I wasn't saying that we should use emotion as a means of reaching our goals. What Napoleon Hill was saying is that the best way to influence the subconscious mind is through emotionalized words and thought. You pointed out visualization which is a GREAT tool, which is better if those images are emotionalized. We all know how emotionalized words and thoughts tend to stick with us more than those that we think in our conscious, rational state.

Point taken. I think we are both saying more or less the same thing. Emotion has to be the driving force whether it is auto-suggestion or visualization.

To get a better idea of what sort of visualization I'm talking about, have a look at Psycho Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz. I think anyone who finds Think and Grow Rich helpful will think likewise of Maltz' work. The two go hand in hand.
