How Big Is Your Problem?

I would guess that you have so problems in your life haven't you?

Do some of them seem overwhelming, massive and unconquerable?

If you stood at the bottom of Mount Everest and looked up, it would appear incredibly huge and insurmountable, wouldn't it?

What if you changed your perspective and perhaps got in a helicopter and hovered near the top, or moved far away from the mountain. Then it would look different and perhaps not so overwhelming.

We all have problems (or challenges) in our lives that appear overwhelming. Often it just takes a change of perspective to change how you feel about it and to make it appear manageable.

This could just be something as simple as looking outside of yourself.

If you are suffering from overwhelming problems then you need to change your perspective. Either

1) Look outside yourself at the people around you and realize how well off you really are

Or

2) Visualize your problem and shrink it down. Put it under your feet or push it far off into the distance. This changes your perspective and makes it manageable

Either of these will change how you feel and help you deal with your problems better and in a more resourceful way.

I agree with both of those points, especially visualization.

I also think adopting an aggressive (not angry) attitude toward your problems and tackling them head on is a great help in eventually overcoming them.

One must climb a mountain to reach a peak.

I realized that I was so blessed to live in an environment wit loving family and friends, personal and financial freedom, a caring and supportive government who can create financial safety nets even when you're unemployed.

My life is like heaven compared to the story of that guy, yet often I find myself complaining and annoyed by things that are relatively meaningless. The ego always tries to find something to be worried and unhappy about. Examples of this is millionares who get furious when there's a tiny scratch on their luxeous sport car.

I am blessed, so lucky to be in this world. And I should charish my time here. I don't know if the live in this physical body is the only thing there will ever exist for me (I don't exclude reincarnation), nevertheless, there is no reason for me not to live my life, regardless of my beliefs about live and death.

The solution to problems is to focus on solutions not the problem, otherwise you will stay stuck on the problem.

    Awesome post!

Changing your own perspective and see the big picture. If you have a problem, what you see as the worst problem possible, maybe that would be the best problem to have for someone else...

Somewhere I read that Donald Trumph has a big picture of the universe on his desk and anytime he faces a big problem he checks it and says: compared to the universe how big is that problem?

A problem is just a due to one's limiting perspective, which is a result of his negative beliefs in life. As you've mentioned, you can overcome it by comparing your situation to other people with bigger problems or imagining the problem smaller than what it looks.

Now, while the poor and middle-class usually considers losing money as a problem, the rich (the true rich) sees it as a lesson to be learned and move on, even if he loses most of his fortune.

I guess it can't be said better than the quote "If you have a positive attitude and constantly strive to give your best effort, eventually you will overcome your immediate problems and find you are ready for greater challenges."

Answering your question: a problem is as big as you make it so.

As a gymnast and a dancer, visualization is EVERYTHING. If you can't see yourself doing it, you can't do it. I teach dance, and I really try to build the kids up with positive reinforcement and constructive criticism, because if you beat them down, they lose that ability to see themselves succeeding. So I love your ideas! Great insight.

Thanks for this daily dose of inspiration.

Just remember there is always someone in a worse situation than you and try to be grateful for what blessings you have. The cure to apathy and self loathing is to look outwards and start helping others less fortunate. If you find yourself going through a bad situation, rather than feeling sorry for yourself, go out to a soup line and spend lunch hour serving food to guys who spend their nights sleeping on a park bench. Then you feel pretty lucky that you have the basics of life and what more does any human need? You'll realize nothing is so bad you can't work your way through it.

In India there is a proverb "Don't tell your God how big is your problem....Tell your problem, how big your God is!!"

Where there is faith, even a mountain is downsized to mole!!
