Three Thoughts About Success And Failure

Take 100% Responsibility

This one is easier said than done, however, if you practice it, I promise it will make you more successful. I know because I took responsibility for social anxiety, depression, and mental illness.

And, I have accomplished and learned a lot.

Most people, however, blame other people and events for the reason why they are not successful. For them, it's never their fault. They never take responsibility. Why? Maybe because it's easier. And, maybe because it takes a certain amount of courage, honestly, and humility to take responsibility for your life.

When you take 100% responsibility for everything that happens to you, you can take charge and create the future that you want. After all, you have created everything up until now. And you can un-create and re-create anything at will.

You will also have a wonderful feeling of empowerment knowing that you are in charge of what happens to you in life.

As Jim Rohn said: "You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind. But you can change yourself." And in changing yourself, you will be more successful.

Make decision today to take 100% responsibility for your life. This is what "winners", "leaders," and "Millionaires" do.

Affirmation:

"I take 100% responsibility for everything that happens to me. And, I'm free to create whatever I desire."
Understand Failure

The way most people think of "failure" is completely wrong. (Then again, most people aren't amazingly successful, right?)

They see it as something negative that should be avoided at all costs.

The truth is, though, that failure can be a great teacher along the journey of success. In fact, Thomas J. Watson (Founder IBM) said:

"Would you like me to give you a formula for success? It's quite simple, really. Double your rate of failure. You're thinking of failure as the enemy of success, but it isn't at all. You can be discouraged by failure, or you can learn from it. So go a head and make mistakes. Make all you can. Because, remember, that is where you will find success."

If I could share just one success secret with you, it would be the Napoleon Hill quotation in my signature. I have overcome some important challenges in my lifetime (including social anxiety, depression, and schizophrenia). Through all of these painful experiences I have learned a great many things.

I promise you that if you search for it, you will find an equivalent or greater benefit to absolutely anything that you are going through.

Including "failure."

Really, failure is just the opportunity to learn something that will help you accomplish your goal(s). As Thomas Edison said: "I haven't failed 10,000 times, I just found 10,000 ways not to invent a light bulb." And without him trying those 10,000 times, he wouldn't have found the "secret" to inventing the incandescent light.

Affirmation:

"I'm not afraid of failure, because I'm always learning. And, I realize that failure is just a learning experience that will make my dreams more a reality."
Choose To Be Successful

This success insight came to me while reading Napoleon Hill's "Think And Grow Rich."

At first this may seem like "positive thinking" and "being determined" however it's something much more "powerful" than that. To put it simply, you can accomplish virtually anything that you desire. And all you have to do is ...

Choose to be successful, and keep taking action.

So what does that mean exactly?

First of all, success is a choice. It is something that you choose to accomplish because you know you can. You don't "try" to be successful. Or maybe accomplish your ambitions. You choose to. You literally know beyond a shadow-of-a-doubt that you can accomplish your goal(s) and you will do whatever it takes to make them a reality.

There are a lot of examples about this kind of mindset in "Think and Grow Rich."

For instance, do you remember Edwin C. Barnes? From the very beginning he chose to be successful. See, he turned up at Thomas Edison's laboratory saying he had come to go into
business with the great inventor.

As Edison recalled:

"He came before me looking like an ordinary tramp. But, there was something in the expression of his face that communicated that he was determined to get what he had come after." See, from the very beginning Edwin chose to be successful. There was no doubt in his mind that he would be successful in working for the great Edison. And so he amassed a great fortune.

This same "power" is available to you. And the only reason you can fail at being a successful Entrepreneur is if you stop taking action. That's it. That's the only reason. You can overcome absolutely everything and make your goals a reality. By choosing to.

Affirmation:

"I choose to be successful, and I know I can accomplish anything that I set my mind to."

i will adress the first two as i have learned to use them.

responsability has nothing to do with blame for why thing happen..it has everything to to with how you chose to respond to what happens to you .

do you react in a habitual pattern that may have been conditioned into you by others ..or are do you observe what is going on and chose your response according to that event ..

this has taken several years of practice and i still fail quite a bit .

I have bi polar disorder and there are time i can feel the chemical change in my head that starts the pattern of depression ..now before i learned to identify this feeling.. the reaction would be to pull a list of reason why i would feel depressed and feed into it .. and even now if it hits when i am around people they may notice and want to know why .

now i can observe the condition prior too the chemical change and pick out the environment causes or some things i may have done .. but at the same time one of the best responses is for me to throw a bit of music on and take a 20-40 minute nap and it is usually enough to reset the chemistry.

so rolling the second thought into the first .. you will revert into reacting according to conditioned habits .but you are able to work on them and change them ..but you will fail over and over as you learn it is part of improving .

you can move many thing done habitually to thing you chose to do or not do .

do you have the power to take control over your response to what happens to you .or are you a creature so stuck thought pattern taking you away from what is going on right now that your body is working like a poorly programmed robot

      Hey Odahh,

Great contribution/addition. : ) I agree, taking responsibility isn't about blame, as you said: “It has everything to do with how you choose to respond to what happens to you.”

      Cheers,

now as far as success goes ..it is real hard to achive something that doesn't have a quantifiable parameter ..that many can agree on .

and people tend to use the wrong metric to measure success .

i have been a complete failure at reducing my scale weight the last year or so though i have stayed the same weight .. but i have had a large improvement in muscle tone and muscle mass and made long term changes to my diet . so i am far healthier even though techically still about 70 pounds over weight . or 80 if you look at the chart..but i look much lighter than i am .

so success is a moving target ..what you can easily have is a systematic method to track improvement ..because you can improve day by day

Here's an addition to the taking responsibility/understanding failure ideas...

Susan Jeffers wrote in 'Feel the fear and do it anyway' that we must not blame ourselves for perceived past failures - we were doing the best we could at that time. Now, that's not a get out of jail carte blanche thing, but it does lessen the weight we put on ourselves from the past, and makes it easier to move forwards!

Thanks Gordino. I should have included something about not “personalizing” failure.

We all fail. And that's a good thing. Because it teaches us how to succeed/improve/etc.

    100% responsible
That is one the main tenants of success. So glad you said it first.

Years ago that was thrown in the face of those saying it when the Twin Towers came down. Of course I am responsible but I am not alone in my responsibility, am I? I share that with millions of others and have to set my own priorities and ways I, personally, am going to do something about it. Pick and choose your battles wisely.

Responsibility is not blame, it is simply recognizing you can do something about it.

Here is a completely different take on being responsible:

A very interesting article from Psychology Today that describes one person’s actual path of healing from schizophrenia. And, as if just one person healing completely isn’t enough? How about a 30% rate of full recovery from mental illness?

    http://www.psychologytoday.com/artic...the-impossible

Confusing honest help and charity to the mentally ill (and all the rest of the people that just don’t know what to do) with having to be a victim is devastating.

You can do something about it. Let’s do it!

this is part of what i was getting at ..this was big and the hati earthquake when loa came out .

and part of the issue is that one word can have different meanings..or is used the same as another ..an earth quake is an earthquake you do not have to cause it to be part of it .

but if you live in an area where they happen you do have full responsability for the preperation for the event .

food and energy prices have been going up nearly 20 percent a year the last few years ..they just are not counted in inflation ..and it will continue .you can make more money to pay for it ..or you can grow some of your own food or learn to cook and cut down the costs..and there are ways to cut your energy use or get more out of what you are using .

It is important to take 100% responsibility for our actions and decisions. Think and Grow Rich is one of my favorite books, although I haven't read it lately. Need to get back into this mindset as I have been away from it for a while and, unfortunately, that lack shows in my life right now.

Due to a major life change (Caregiver to my father who recently died), I need to cut loose of the negative feelings and emotions of the past and move into a much more positive future. And yes, I do need to take full responsibility for negative thoughts, actions, and reactions of the past. Time to forgive and move on.

Thank you for sharing this powerful message!

It is being able to change, heal, or whatever you want to call it – that is the most important thing. If we are still trying to adjust behavior on deep subconscious false beliefs then permanent failure is almost inevitable. A clear, concise process to change these beliefs is what is needed. Everyone claims it, but they simply do not deliver.

Here is a link in Psychology Today about a complete recovery from schizophrenia.
Overcoming the Impossible | Psychology Today

    Here are some interesting highlights:

Do we recover or are we transformed by our experiences?

Research from around the world documents high rates of complete recovery from schizophrenia.

For me personally, dealing with schizophrenia has definitely "transformed" me. That's why I included Napoleon Hill's quotation in my signature.

      Schizophrenia has:

      1. Deepened my compassion and empathy.
      2. Made me realize how much I love my Family.
      3. Put me on a path to spiritual development. (I'm a born again Christian.) And rejuvenated my "relationship" with God.
      4. And, perhaps the most important "benefit" I'm now in the process of building an Information Publishing Organization that will liberate people from fear suffering and anxiety.

I can't wait for the day when I can say:

"I went from being a paranoid schizophrenic to a multi-millionaire who liberated thousands of people."

Set a goal and list all the things that you are willing to sacrifice to get it. You will be surprised by the result.
