Why do you do Internet Marketing?

I'm curious, Warriorforumers!

Let me start with a bit about myself, and why I want to ask this question to you all.

I'm just an undergraduate uni student who is about to graduate, so I (am under the illusion? haha) have a lot of choices that I can make about a future path. I'm 21 this year, and I'm not really quite sure where I want to be going with my life just yet. I don't intend to be lazy about finding my passion, though. Given my degree and how I'm graduating from one of the "better" universities, I could probably enter into corporate life. Now as for my family, my parents work really hard every day, and as a result, they fill in certain social gaps with their business and make quite a lot of money. However, at the cost of this financial freedom is the inability to spend time with family (mostly me), and a lot of stress, and almost round-the-clock talks about business matters. We actually live apart in different countries. I think they enjoy what they do though... (?)

As for me, I can honestly say I'm not a lazy person once I put my mind to something. However, I believe I am lacking certain motivations, or have not yet developed proper habits. For one, finances have never been an immediate priority to me. This may sound like an excuse, but some part of me has seen how too much money can corrupt character, and I've become a bit wary of it. I've also been provided for by my parents probably my whole life. I just did what I was told to do. I've started to think for myself a bit more now, about what I actually like. I don't like the way how it sounds like I've lived a sheltered life, but it's probably the truth, and until some very scary events shook up my life and changed me to take more responsibility for my own actions, that's the way I've lived.

I've also seen what it's like to live a modest life, and then lead one of relative wealth. Was life worse off when I was shackled in a tiny apartment in my home country with my family and cousins, and better now that I have a large, empty house to myself in a different country? No, honestly, it's not really that black-and-white in my mind. Things are just different now. You gain some things, you lose some others. It's definitely not to say I have anything against those who have accumulated wealth due to their works. In fact, I have great respect for certain people. For me, it's just the way people embrace their success (or how they obtain it). I just don't see money as the one and only goal through life, especially at the cost of others.

That leads me to this question. I'm a rather devout Christian, and I've dabbled in Internet Marketing during my high school days. I haven't really made much money, but I did make some, and a lot of the processes felt unethical to me. Some of them I feel were simply so focused on making money, I wondered about whether or not it would make any real positive impact on people's lives. I've also been ripped off, scammed, had stress levels overload due to SQL database hackings, and contrarily met great people, worked with self-made entrepreneurs and learned quite a bit about the Internet. All of this through a computer (seems crazy to me...). I want, if possible, to hear some of your feedback about why you are interested in Internet Marketing. As much as possible, or as little as you want. Just any constructive feedback would be appreciated. For example, is financial freedom your main goal, and why? What do (would) you do with your life then, once you've achieved it? Are you willing to sacrifice morals to obtain what you seek? In short, what does Internet Marketing mean to you?

Since I have a lot of free time and the resources to be sitting in front of the computer, I'm seriously re-considering Internet Marketing. They even teach this as a course in my university, although I didn't take that course. Also, please don't judge me for my story if you can help it, we probably don't know each other personally, and I'm just a youngster asking for some feedback.

Thank you!
Regards,
Sam

    Hi Sam,

Just like anything in life we make up our own mind as to what path we choose and how we navigate that path. Internet Marketing has in the past and still has in the present some people that will use it for gain without giving any value, and who may not have any morals, but that is a choice.

The Internet is a platform that provides opportunity and value and anyone can use it as their tool to build a business and give value to others. I personally love the internet and I am building a business in personal development, my aim is to help as many people as possible to improve their lives. It is something I am passionate about and something I just love being involved in. My business is still gathering momentum and I know it will continue to grow, mainly because I love what I am doing, it is not a quick in and out business that is designed to make me a quick buck. I am building it and developing it to serve people and help them.

I love writing and have written two books so far in this field which are aligned with my online business and because I am practising what I doing in my business, I continue to develop myself, which means I know I will have more information and techniques to share as I myself grow.

Getting back to you Sam, the only advice I can give you is that you need to take some time to understand what it is you love to do, find your passion and then develop that into a business, so you can share and give value to other people whilst doing what you love. You are young so do not rush this, take time and really think about what it is that you want to give the world. If you need to take a job in the meantime whilst you are figuring out what you really want to share with the world, then that is fine, like I said you are young.

When you know what you are really passionate about then use the internet as the platform to share your passion.

I hope this helps Sam, good luck.

    Regards
    Rob

For me internet marketing interest me so much, because of the fact that it can be an automated business that you can take with you anywhere as long as you have A laptop and internet connect.

I just love the fact how its so hands off and how easy business is to do with all the technology we have now...such as: social media, auto-responders etc etc.

    hello sam,

being productive in some way is the only way to be mentally healthy .and using the internet to connect with and sell what you produce to others ..is going to be more important than having a car to get to work is for the normal american.

you know the outlook employment wise for people your age leaving uni today..A degree gave you the skills or more the cirtification..to possibly get a job with a big company ..even though around the world there are less and less of those and more people graduating with degrees ..worldwide .

    supply and demand .

personally i have been on a search for what i want to produce ..and i have studdied many way of marketing through the internet .

using the internet to market goods ..allows you to live nearly anywhere you want ..that you can produce what you want..and connect with people who want to buy what you produce nearly anywhere else .

this is a break with the old models ..where you either had to live and work near people or enough people interested .. and spend lots of money marketing and on lots of overhead .

so you can live and work where you want and not be restricted to that area for your income .

I do internet marketing, because i like it, and thinks its funny to see how i can scale and learn a lot from it.

Basically all i learn from internet marketing is something i can implement in real life, and i like that a lot.

Internet Marketing caught my attention, because I found myself coming up with a lot of ideas. Being introspective I knew I couldn't run all of the business I imagined or invent all of the products I visualized. So internet marketing became attractive, because I saw at as a way for me to be involved with several different businesses and products without having to develop them. I could make money, help people solve their problems, and always learn about new things as I am called upon to create customers for a business or expose products to the world.
