Has anyone actually used techniques here or elsewhere to improve their life over the long term?

I'm a lurker on this board. I consider self-help stuff one of my guilty intellectual pleasures. I read some books and websites often, just to run off and forget or not stick with anything I've read. I think I just enjoy the "mental rush" I get in the moment of reading, and so that's mostly what I do.

As the title states, I'm interested in those who have used techniques from the "self-help" subject area to improve their lives over the course of a year or more. If so, what worked? On the opposite site, what didn't stick?

I'm guessing there are more than a few out there. Hoping you'll share

    Goals.

If I was to highlight anything, it would be Goals!
I was always eager with making money but I never considered setting a list of goals and check points for myself.. I was always able to make lots, then lose lots, make lots, lose lots....

When I begin setting goals,,, Well, always considering positive actions, along with setting goals. That is when I really started noticing a nice successful progression of savings.

Goals are very important as I discovered, and a good motivator if you work them well.

Here is a post I written here on Warrior Forum about Goals if your interested.

As damien mentioned, Goals and taking action is the key.

First find out what you want in life. Write it down with great detail.

Build an action plan to get it. Take action whether you feel like it or not.

    Don't overcomplicate stuff

    Cheers,

    C.G.

I agree with the others, damiensuccess and CG, you have to know what you really want in life and then set goals inline with what you want. Then make a plan on how you will achieve those goals, and then take consistent action until you reach your goals.

Possibly the one major change that I learned via self help courses is the benefit(s) of meditation. The act of cleansing yourself of daily stress does something amazing to the body - it's pretty amazing to be honest.

I use my meditation to create silence, as in no thoughts, and I use it for deep visualization of my goals. This has positively affected all parts of my life.

Yep, I've used the ideas to get into 3 different industries over the years with no previous experience.

I followed the ideas of taking action and networking, and then took action and networked. It really can work if applied!
          cheers,

Reading some of the recommended books on this forum has definitely changed my life. I wasn't really a religious reader, but I have been reading for 30 minutes a day since August of last year and I've never been more productive. I used to think success was about luck and destiny, but now I know that success is a choice and I have made the choice to succeed no matter what.

I love this material and actually my work falls into this category. I read everything I can get my hands on and apply some of it. I am always on the search for good material that supports internal inspiration. Most people I know are using external motivators to try to make significant changes. They rely too heavily on stamina, which is a costly mistake.
If you set goals based on the right reasons, with all the supports in place, you are golden. I am now off my soap box. Thank you for listening.

"The right reasons"...is important. I've found that some of the goals I've set in the past have actually slowed me down because my imagination of what's possible over what time period was totally off. As soon as I stopped setting goals and started setting "aims to be done ASAP" I started achieveing some spectacular results which were far and above anything I could have set a "goal" to do.

That was a good lesson that dramatically changed my life. I also learned a new way to look at money, wealth, freedom and that whole topic. All picked up wither in this sub forum, this forum or by reading other people's ideas.

My life is full of techniques and ideas I use from here and everywhere. I was away the day they did school so I've pretty much learned all my useful skills from threads and opinions of others post the "education" system.

I would add to this that the goals you set need to be *your* goals, as opposed to goals set by others, whether directly or indirectly.

Yes, but it was from a realization not that any sot of technique "works" for goals.

It just made me realize that everything is synchronized and aware. Everything. There is no magic technique to get everything you want.
