A Life Of Habits - Having Better Habits

Habits can be viewed in several different ways.
  • Activities we perform instinctively.
  • Actions we don't know or realize we're doing.
  • Thoughts or Responses to certain activities or actions. We call these reactions.
All of which can be changed with practice and focus.
Remember that you can never simply "Stop A Habit" you always "Replace A Habit"



I like to use smoking as an example, because many can relate to this vicious habit. Many people who have overcome the habit of smoking "Like Myself" will share the common story of getting involved with other activities. Simple steps such as drinking a glass of water when you crave a cigarette starts a process of replacing this habit with other less addictive habits.

With realizing how we live our lives, we surround ourselves with activities we engage in. Some of these activities get the better of us, and form "Bad Habits" and the only real way of eliminating a bad habit is to envelop your life with other actions or "Good Habits".
By doing so, you gradually phase out the bad habit from existence.

    the problem is that a lot of good habits ..somtimes are not that good and bad habits are a moderation issue .

    how many people who worked and put their money in something to do with the stock market ..because it was supposed to be a good habit or just saved money..have been hit hard the last 10 years .

    what about eating lowfat yogert thinking it is healthy ..wen they took out the fat and put in more sugar than a 20 ounce soda pop .

    or sterilizing your hand every time you touch something ..which kills off your bodies defenses.

    eating 2-3 eggs a day was a bad habit for several decades ..now it is not and eggs are good

    but instead parents have been feeding themselves and their kids ..highly processed sugar filled cerial in milk with a glass of orange juice ..sending the kids to school with spiking blood sugar and possible lactose intolerance issues .

    are you habits really good ..or really bad..or are they only thought to be based off the current social conditioning .

    there are habits you need to have based off of what you want to accomplish ..

    the habits you develop ..should be structured around your goals .

    it is not a good idea to accumulate a lot of stuff if you want to travel and live around the earth .

    forget the labels good and bad .

    do your habits support the life you want or do they prevent you from getting what you want .

    Thanks for pointing that out.
    What we look at as good or bad can be very deceiving.
    We can't control this because we are continuously learning new things, and learning new ways of being healthier or live more efficiently. It isn't a matter of right or wrong, good or bad, it is a matter of whether what you do is going to get you where you want to go.

    Obviously this opinion has its limits. Abide by your morals and treat people fairly in the end.

    I think Damien changing habits 1 tiny step at a time makes all the difference. You also need to want to change, and build that desire, to do the freeing but uncomfortable stuff which precedes a habit change. Thanks dude!

    Speaking of bad habits, I am speaking of someone who always has a bad attitude, and ignorant towards people. Yesterday morning she woke up to her car window broken with a rock.
