Do you have a reward system for yourself?

Hey Warriors,

I suddenly thought of this because personally I never really reward myself with the amount of money I make.

Either they sit in my bank account or they are used for business expenses. I never really thought of buying anything for myself.

So... do you setup a reward system for yourself?
e.g: when your email list reach 1,000 subscribers, buy yourself a bigger tv.

It is actually a good idea to set up rewards.

From a psychology standpoint, experiences will make you happier than posessions.

    So possible rewards:
    - Nice dinner out
    - Vacation
    - Cruise
    - Fun action (paragliding, tandem parachute jump,...)

You can also buy items that enable you to have experiences

    - outdoor gear
    - camera
    - TV (if you enjoy watching TV and not just numbing)
    - any hobby items

    Yes i do.

Basically when i need to force myself to do something to build a new habit. I reward myself everyday i succeed. Simple things like watching my favorite tv show, spa etc.

    Cheers,

    C.G.

Indeed a great idea! Sometimes I forget to reward myself.

Just last week I did reward myself. started with one purchase, then another,, next thing I know it I am walking out of Canadian Tire with a load of power tools. (I Want To Build Something).. Then the very next day, i seen an SUV I wanted. I said heck with it, and bought the SUV.

Every so often, rewarding yourself will keep you motivated to push harder, knowing that you are doing a great job and deserve it.

I workout longer and harder. We call them bonus minutes of pain. Clearly, my definition of reward is a bit different.

Or a healthier meal. Again, the opposite of what most would consider a reward.

Life itself I wake up, that's my reward. Great idea though!

Anyone created a system for themselves for this yet?

or are we rewarding ourselves based on a set of feelings like "I think I did a good job this month, let's buy X"

The question seems to be how to set up a rewards system for yourself.

Make it a simple money based thing

    Two approaches:
    1. I would like to buy / do thing X, so if I earn amount Y, I'll go and do that.
    2. Every 1st of the month, take 5% of your IM earnings (or whatever percentage works for you) and do something for myself with it.

    The second approach will
    • reward you at set intervals - something to look forward to
    • give out bigger rewards as your earnings grow - built in motivation to earn more
So that would be the approach I recommend.

I do this, but I give myself rewards ranging from small to big, based on small and big goals

rewards are more effective than punishment.

I find that when you do something well you should give your self a pat on the back. Nothing more until you reach a milestone. Then have a small token. When you complete the project or task then and only then do I give my self something nice. Like go out for a nice dinner or crack open a nice bottle of wine.

I reward myself by hanging out with friends or taking a day-off to play video games. Sometimes I'll setup punishments.

When I'm having a hard time getting something done that I know I can get done, I will put something of value on the line. I might put my hdtv on the line or my laptop on the line. If I don't complete a task in a specific amount of time I must break my hdtv or my laptop to pieces.

Works for me every time. The key is to actually believe that if you don't complete the task you will destroy whatever it is you're placing on the line.

I do! But not all the time, when I feel that I've done enough to deserve it I treat myself to something I don't get to buy often, sometimes it's a simple shirt, sometimes it's a grand dinner set. I think it's a good way to motivate yourself as well. Rewarding yourself after doing a good job makes you feel good about yourself. Especially when the most critical judge about your achievements is always going to be yourself.

I content myself with short-term immediate goals. Most of the rewards I give myself involve food. If the targets haven't been reached, I deprive myself of any nourishment. Well, I'm on my way to becoming obese so you might say I have been definitely succesful in what I do.

Hi, yes i'd say it is very important to reward yourself as it gives you motivation and an incentive to succeed and achieve bigger and better things in the long run. If you don't reward yourself along the way then the chances are that you will start to question what your actual objectives/goals are and your actual abilities and then before you know it you will lose focus and motivation and you will be back to square one!
