My 5 Pillars to Absolute Online Success

Firstly ... This is how I made my very first online money:

What ended up happening was, I created a tutorial series teaching people how to install Joomla from Scratch via FTP, creating data-bases and the whole nine yards. Posted the tutorial on my own personal website I made using Joomla and VirtueMart and BAM! Finally my first sale, from organic traffic.. someone who had a problem and I provided the solution. It was a marvelous day, and my goodness that must have been at least 8 years ago now, haven't had a tremendous amount of luck online that's for sure, but I have made money ... just nothing to retire on .... YET!

I want to be clear though, I've had a background in web development since around 1995 [We even won awards back then, we were one of the first companies offering flash websites, Techtanium Web Publishing, and my bestfriend and I were only 11 or 12]

So for me, learning was important and I started with the basics and these are my 5 Pillars to Absolute Online Success (for the non lazy) [unlike me]

  • Learn HTML (today this isn't entirely necessary, you just need to know how to search for what you want or need... or you can always hire an outsourcer to fix the issue or do whatever you want) especially with things like SMForums, Joomla, WordPress etc. ... So in this case I started with Joomla, I found all the tutorials I could and learned Joomla inside and out. [TIP] Find something [a CMS] (ONE THING!) and learn it, learn it well. [Learn your CPanel and hosting account as well, this includes FTP access, email creation etc.]

  • Learn something else that goes along with owning a website, like: writing copy, graphics, programming plugins/applications/modules etc. and outsource or buy the rest.

  • Learn a bit of "what's popular" ... stuff like SEO, Black Hat techniques, creating funnels, marketing techniques, being an affiliate (do what you like and outsource the rest, learn black hat techniques to keep you sharp and on the razors edge, do not use black hat techniques, merely learn from them.)

  • ***Learn how to do paid advertising for a few different companies: facebook, google, yahoo etc. and learn about the different kinds of advertising, CPA, PPC, CPC etc.. [This is HUGELY important.] or you'll end up spending a fortune getting someone else to do it for you.

  • Learn how to make eBooks in PDF, then for Kindle and other "Self-Publishing" companies, this will come in handy and save you money because you'll be able to write and produce almost all of the material you'll ever need.
Then you're set... once you know that stuff.. stop learning for a bit and start implementing what you know like crazy.. and all the while you're learning each part you should be practicing and implementing what you can as you can afford it.... Always be testing.

You will only ever really learn by doing something. - David Allen Neron

David, amen on html It's saved me many hours and headaches having learned the basics in tech school. I'd share that engaging in SERIOUS personal development was a turning point for me, for it inspired me to act on prospering ideas, and to meet and work with successes. Thanks!

As for me, here are my 5 pillars:

Knowledge - You can never have enough of it.
Skills - You have to do something that you can do.
Passion - You'll have no fuel without this. And if people notice that you lack this, then there is a slimmer chance of succeeding.
Community - You have to participate in your community no matter what
Content - You have to fuel your sites with great, never-before-seen content.

  • Definitely include making high ticket sales! Without high ticket sales, you'll be stuck peddling ebooks all day. I like the offline high ticket sales because it's easy to offer solutions to business owners who have big problems that you can solve.

So I would say offer high ticket solutions, and also solve problems. Focus is critical, having a plan is extremely important, and having a vision or a goal of where you want your life to be is also important.

    All the best,
    Michael

Learn something else that goes along with owning a website, like: writing copy, graphics, programming plugins/applications/modules etc.

I read: Skill Marketing. This is hot and evergreen. Everyone want to learn a new skill so why not teach them about it?

I think knowing a bit about everything you're involved in is helpful, even down to graphics design etc.

It's important to understanding how much value there is in a particular job, so you can focus your energy where it's really needed and weed out non-star players.

This is a great post. I do not have five pillars for success, I only have one. The one is to remember success comes from me. I live mindfully and from that it has changed my life, and my work!
