Be not a hypocrite, practice what you preach
I think one of the biggest balancers in our life is understanding ourselves. We might not always realize it, but we tend to think one way and then act another way. We've all been hypocrites in a certain manner.
For example, a smoker might tell a kid not to smoke because it harms his health... but he continues to smoke because he can't stop the habit of doing it... and he might actually like the "soothing" of his cravings for it.
It's not about whether you're trustworthy or not... It's simply a matter of whether you can align your own rationality and emotions.
For example... When something pulls you towards it... A distraction, whatever it is... Do you have the willpower to pull back from it? Or will you be subject to its influence and go into procrastination?
When reason tells you to move forward, you might not listen to it - your feelings tell you otherwise. When you have an impulse to buy something, you might not listen to your inner voice telling you to save the money.
Emotions can be really powerful things. As marketers, we seek to trigger emotions of other people to "differentiate" our products. But yet, we ourselves are subject to our own emotions. Isn't this not practising what we preach?
Write down a list of whatever you preach... Then ask yourself if you're practising it.
This exercise was something I adapted after speaking to a monk. The heart and the mind should be consistent. Whenever you preach something, actually do it. Just thought sharing this with warriors would be a really nice thing to do...
Have a nice day
