Can anyone recommend a good motivational book...

I've been "stuck in a rut" lately, dealing with depression, laziness, and just generally putting off almost EVERYTHING in my life, including my IM projects. Is there a good book, maybe a "lifestyle coach" type of book that's inspiring, motivating, helps you realize your goals and helps you come up with ways to achieve them type of book? Thanks!

Not got a book but I remember watching Marcus Buckingham a long time ago, I think back around 2009. Check out one of his videos on Vimeo here.

Great question! And I respect the fact that you are aware that you are stuck in a rut, and are committed to moving forward!

My recommendation, is that instead of focusing on getting out of this rut, accept it, embrace it and use it as a launching pad towards your definition of success and happiness.

You are only in a "depression" and a "rut", because of your rules that you use to define your life. You have a definition of success (which is simply unique to you), and because you are not experiencing it at the moment, you are emotionally depressed. For example, you're definition of success might be: earning $100K/monthly through internet marketing. And because you're only earning $80K/monthly you are depressed. It's an extreme example, but it illustrates a point.

A friend of mine was in Fiji, where some of the islanders live in huts and tents, and live on less than $2 per day. I would have to believe that their definition of success is a lot different then yours. Are they depressed? Absolutely not! In fact, he tells me they smile all day and enjoy their life. Now if you lived on $2 a day, would you be depressed? Absolutely. And most people would, however it is simply because of the rules they create for their life.

Earning a certain income, or achieving a certain goal is not going to bring you happiness. Perhaps for the short term, but not for the long term.

Use this time in your life to explore the rules you have created for your life that are contributing to being depressed and stuck in a rut. Don't run away from them. Identify them, and then adopt new rules, that allow you to enjoy your life no matter what!

If you need help doing this, feel free to message me, and it would be my pleasure to help!

You have a tremendous opportunity in front of you! Take advantage! You're extremely lucky to be at this point in your life!

Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill this book is a number one best seller. Chicken Soup for the Soul by Jack Canfield is another these always come to mind. Depends what you are looking for some times a change in scenery is cheaper and more productive than any motivational book.

Think And Grow Rich as DWolfe stated is always something worth reading multiple times.

However, if that's something you've already read, I'm reading Brendon Burchard's "The Charge" and it may be more suited for what you're going through.

Also The MIllionaire Fastlane by MJ DeMarco will just get you flat out pumped lol

A good motivational book for me is "Success Principles" by Jack Canfield. I own the audio version of it. What I would suggest is to join Audible.com and get a free audio book on your trial month and spend your free pass to purchase this book. You won't regret it because I myself have tried it and helps me tremendously in my personal life. Reggie

I put in another vote for Think and Grow Rich. Awesome classic that never seems to go out of date.

Personally I also enjoy reading or listening to Tony Robbins. With his charisma and enthusiasm it's hard not to get a lift.

Know what you mean by getting in a rut and not wanting to do much. After 10+ years online, I still fall into them from time to time. Sure many people here would say the same. Easy to do. Your sure not the only one

One of the most amazing books I've ever read is "An Iron Will" by Orison Swett Marden.

You probably didn't know this but Orison was one of the first Personal Development, positive thinking, and New Thought authors. He founded "Success Magazine" (one of the first of its kind) in 1897.

Here's some excerpts from the book:

"The education of the will is the object of our existence," says Emerson. Nor is this putting it too strongly if we take into account the human will in its relations to the divine.

There are three kinds of people in the World. The Wills. The Won'ts. And the Can'ts. The first accomplish everything. The second oppose everything. And the third fail in everything.

"The man that exercises his will," says an English essayist, "makes it a stronger and more effective force in proportion to the extent to which such exercise is intelligently and perseveringly maintained."

There are no two works in the English language which stand out in bolder relief, like kings upon a checker board, to so great an extent as the worlds "I will." There is strength, depth and solidity, decision, confidence and power, determination, vigour and individuality, in the round, ringing tone which characterizes its delivery.

The positive man, the decided man, is a power in the World, and stands for something; you can measure him and estimate the work that his energy will accomplish.

It is the man with a positive nature, the man who believes that he is equal to the emergency, who believes he can do anything he attempts, who wins the confidence of his fellow man. He is beloved because he is brave and self sufficient.

The World turns aside to let any man pass who knows wither he is going.

The mind has undoubted power to preserve and sustain physical youth and beauty, to keep the body strong and healthy, to renew life, and to preserve it from decay, many years longer than it does now.

The more difficulties one has to encounter, within and without, the more significant and the higher in inspiration his life will be." --Horace Bushnell

Persistency of purpose is a power. It creates confidence in others. Everybody believes in the determined man. When he undertakes anything his battle is half won, because not only he himself, but everyone who knows him, believes that he will accomplish whatever he sets out to do.

Opposing circumstances create strength. Opposition gives us great power of resistance. To overcome one barrier gives us great ability to overcome the next.

Success is not measured by what a man accomplishes, but by the opposition he has encountered, and the courage with which he has maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds. Not the distance we have run, but the obstacles we have overcome, the disadvantages under which we have made the race, will decide prizes.
Just search Google to download a free copy of "An Iron Will." (It's in the Public Domain.)

There's tons of books. Just do a search on Amazon.

But i believe that you don't need to read anything. You already know what to do to achieve your goals. However, you are not taking action.

Why are you not taking action? IM is a business. You should treat it like one. It seems that you have your priorities wrong. Or you sort of believe that something needs to be fun in order for you to do it. That's a myth. Successful people take action even when they don't feel like it.

So go to work now and achieve your dreams.

    Cheers,

Agree with you. But sometimes we become weak and we need to 'refuel' to gain our energy and spirit back. motivation book is one good way.

True, reading or listening is not the same as "DOING" but, at the same time, reading something or listening to something DOES help "unclog" our mindset. You may not need to read anything but, honestly, I doubt that to be true.
Reading/listening allows us to discover something that may "turn on" a switch or an idea in our minds that we've overlooked or allowed to go dormant.
Sure, many times it may be something that we already know and believe but have allowed to go by the wayside and reading/listening can remind us of that fact.
Reading and listening is KEY to maintaining a positive mindset.
Telling someone that they don't need to read is like telling someone that they don't need to eat.
      Just my thoughts.
