Hello, One stupid question, is it "allowed" to scrape mobile phone numbers and then send them SMS Messages? Or is it the same like email? single/double optin? Or is it possible/allowed to send them messages? Thanks |

depends on which country you are targeting. In USA, UK and few other countries you have to get approval from end user. In other countries you do not need this kind of permission. You can freely send them marketing messages. I hope this was helpful for you. | |

You need their permission and for marketing solicitation, you are required to have written consent before marketing to them vis SMS.

It would be better if you would take permission from the customer.

Most people hate SMS spam. Such marketing strategy will most probably repel people and may be illegal in some countries. But there's nothing wrong to send promotional messages to people once you get their consent. If a person tried your services once and gave consent to get promotions, that means this person most liked your service. In this case SMS marketing can be very effective. |

As far I know you need permission in most of the countries. You haven't mentioned about the country. Can you please mention the country?

You need to get permission by having the subscriber double-optin. With SMS lists, that simply means sending them an initial SMS asking them to confirm by replying Y or YES. Every subsequent message should contain "reply stop to cancel" or something along those lines. I'm a subscriber to an SMS list of a local Culver's restaurant, and they never include that unsubscribe option in their promo texts. Even large corporations can be stupid. |

Yes permission is required, you can also get their consent by allowing to submit their number via a web-form.

Permission is generally required .. But, from my experience, Only e-commerce sites can have some decent results through SMS marketing. Others use it for Brand awareness.

Generally speaking to obtain consent and opt-in, you should have the customer text your mobile keyword to opt-in or you can have them sign up via an online sign up form and you must explicitly state that you're collecting the phone number for the purpose of future sms communication.

According to the statistics ~98% of all SMS messages are opened, but only 20% of emails are looked at. So I think that SMS messaging is not dead, and it can be used effectively in business communication. For example sending a birthday message in SMS is a really personal way to make a great impression on your customers and to build your brand.

Issue with apps however is that it would be required for your customers to have the messaging app, adoption has been slow for messaging apps in the us market.

The Mobile Marketing Association (MMA) requires that you ask customers to double opt-in before sending them messages on a regular basis. If they give you their phone number, you have to ask again if it's okay to send them messages (hence the double opt-in).

I would never recommend buying lists of numbers, for a number of reasons: - You don't know who these people are, or if they'd even be interested in your service, so SMS sends to them are likely to be a waste of money - You're not going to be the first person to buy the list, so the numbers on the list will have received countless unsolicited messages already, decreasing your message effectiveness - Unsolicited messages tend to irritate people, which could in turn have a detrimental effect on perceptions of your company. It's best to organically grow a list of subscribers with double opt-ins and only market to them - aside from the legal elements involved, it will always be more effective. |

Again to repeat, under the TCPA you're not allowed to scrape numbers online and just texting them. You must first get their consent before you text them.

I do not recommend SMS. Too much trouble and it usually always comes off as spam.

As per Google update on mobile-algorithm so most of the website's today are mobile-responsive so as mine (Outsourcing Philippines). However, do you think by 2020, google algorithm recommend SMS Marketing? If so, this will be a big investment then. What do you think?
