It's best to get involved in both if you have time, money and resources... or to integrate one with the other, i.e. have a website and an accompanying app.

Good to have both, for die-hard fans of your brand/business they will download your mobile app. For others its important if they're browsing on their phone to offer them a good user experience browsing your site from their mobile device. |

You should always look at having a mobile website first. The majority of consumers use mobile web to scope out brands and companies. Here's an article I wrote about it. You should only push out an app if you're offering something of value. Otherwise it'll just be another barely downloaded app in a sea of apps. |

Like others have mentioned, you should always have a mobile website first. When someone learns of your product/ brand/ service, there first reaction isn't "better check the App Store/ Play Store!" Having said that, I think that mobile apps are truly only useful if they provide an enhanced experience to your offering. If you're selling a product, you'll have little reason to have an app. Same for a service typically, unless we're talking about a SaaS (software as a service) business. Not to mention that developing a mobile website it likely infinitely cheaper than an app, will gain more exposure, can be updated without bugging a user, and generally is the first "go-to" resource for new customers. Cheers. |

A mobile application is a good thing to have apart from a responsive website. Most of us have smartphones today and having an app means that you are present with the state-of-the-art tools at your disposal.

Why is it always one or the other? I sell mobile apps to small businesses like salons nightclubs takeaways dentists. They now say they couldn't do without them. I will always recommend a responsive site to my customers who haven't got a mobile site. Covering all angles. An app, not a poor HTML5 web app a proper smart custom native app which by the way can be cheaper than a web app depends on the business who's building/selling them. On your clients phone 24/7 is a powerful marketing tool. Just my 2cents. |

Mobile website is a great customer discovery tool. Mobile apps are a great customer retention tool. BOTH are important and should be created for any mobile marketing strategy. 80% of revenue can come from 20% of customers for some businesses! |
I resell mobile apps for a company called Bizness Apps. Not affiliated at all, just a fan and supporter.

Why not create a hybrid app, which has features of both. Eg - If you run a blog and want to create a app for it, make the blog website(mobile version) run in the app, and if the reader likes your blog he/she can save it for reading later. |
