Selling Mobile Marketing to Businesses???
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

So I'm seriously thinking about getting into selling Mobile Marketing to businesses. Web sites, SMS, etc... As it seems like a great time to get involved.

I have plenty experience selling over the phone and online marketing. So I really think I would do well with it.

I do have a concern. I've seen vids where they talk about doing this face to face. My opinion is that unless you are dealing with a whale, then face to face is waste of time. I need to be able to do this nationwide.

Anyway, I would like to hear any feedback from those already in the business.

Mobile marketing agencies are often looking for independent representatives. The most common sale would be text message marketing and web design. I do disagree with your premise that you need to be nationwide. There is plenty of business even in a small city and as a one man band, you are unlikely to land a whale anyway. You are going to make a go of it with local restaurants, golf courses, gyms, etc... The good news is that the average SMB owner knows very little about mobile so it won't take long for you to become an expert in their eyes.

I loathe cold-calling so cannot say directly how that strategy will work. What I can offer though is that one of the caveats of selling mobile services is that often you first have to educate the business owner. Today, almost all business owners KNOW that they need a web presence (website). 10-15 years ago, not so much.

Today, most business owners do not know that they potentially need to optimize for mobile, whether it be a mobile website, mobile e-commerce, sms marketing or a mobile app with push notifications.

So, just keep in mind that I think cold calling could work with a large volume of calls, your script may need to be more robust given many business owners will need to be educated on the value of mobile marketing.

Few on this board have been in mobile as long as AUKev,

He is on the money here, the education issue is what makes this a tough sale on the phone and why most start local.

A few years from now, I believe this will be a different story, so if you have the capital, patience, to get started now, get a head of the curve, start to figure out a national marketing plan, this could be adventageous and profitable in the future.

On another note : AUKev, who are you pulling for in the Sugar :-)

I will use cold calling / online marketing to find the companies that have an interest and then set up appointments when they can be in front of their computer and then do a presentation using join.me which requires no sign up or download. The user just types a code on a web page to gain access to the presentation. Anyway, this to me seem like it would be the most productive way to do it and do it nationwide.

I was looking at selling mobile websites and mobile biz apps with push included in 2015. So what you are saying is, I first need to educate businesses on why they need it, or it will be hard to sell, is that correct?

I use a very similar process myself. You call to set a demo, get a time together to go over their current mobile strategy, present yourself as willing to help and not sell, then offer solutions.

1. Introduce yourself
2. Probe their needs (Are they looking to increase revenue? How?)
3. Position mobile apps & mobile websites to achieve their goals
4. Go over any objections
5. Close the sale!

I resell mobile apps for a company called Bizness Apps. Not affiliated at all, just a fan and supporter.

That's my plan. I'm not big on apps, but plan to do Mobile Sites and SMS. NFC, Beacons/mobile wallet looks promising and assume I will offer it once it's more mainstream and viable for the smb.

I would target apps and brands. App developers are generally oblivious about the marketing site of their business, and if they'll have idea on how to promote their apps, they'd be in a better position to raise VC funding.

Diablo, did you move forward with getting into the mobile marketing space? Curious as to how you did now that it's been 6 months and did you move forward by white labeling a sms reseller solution?

The easiest way to get into and start selling mobile marketing services is to start with mobile websites.

1. Select a niche i.e. Hair Salons

2. Bookmark 10 non mobile friendly sites and their mobile friendly site demo versions (I use DudaMobile) on your smartphone.

3. Then simply walk into the first business on your bookmarks and say this: ''Hi can I see the business owner please?'' (Don't forget to smile throughout).

Once he/she appears, say ''Is this your website'?''

Show them the phone.

Once he/she agrees that it's their site, you take the phone back and and click on the Demo bookmark.

Show them the phone again and say, ''I build sites like this. They're easy for people to contact you or get directions with just the click of a button. Let me ask you, if your potential customer had a choice between this demo and your site, which one would he/she, feel more comfortable contacting you on? Do you think this Demo site is something that would help your business?''

If they say yes.....do the following....look at the time and say....''I have a few more appointments to get to today, when is a good time for me to drop back by and talk to you about this?''

Make an appointment. If they say no.....thank them for their time. Walk out professionally. Get in your car or on the public transport and go see the next business on your bookmarks.

Rinse and repeat.

Get fast at doing this!!

Numbers!!!!!

I probably sell about 1 site out of 10 or so visits like this.

So you could sell 1 per day like this if you put your mind to it.

Here is how you handle the sales presentation:

Sit down and assume the sale.

Show them the site again on the phone and ask them if they want more customisation.

Then ask them this, as a closing question: ''Are you ready to get the ball rolling today?''

When they say ''Yes'', state the price and ask for 50% deposit upfront, plus, ask about hosting. If they have their own hosting (most do) ask for their FTP login details so that you can insert an automatic mobile detection code. (Explain what this does).

Then tell them, you will return for the balance, when the mobile detection code is inserted into the header tags of their main website.

Thats it!!!

I have found that, walking into a business and showing them their site vs a demo works wonders. Plus, explaining that mobile visitors, will only look up their website if they want to ring up or visit so having a mobile version that can do that, with the click of a button, will improve their ''visitor to lead ratio''.

I hope that helps.

I agree with global 1967, I use,the same strategy except the difference between my script and his is I engage their customers who are waiting for a hair cut

I show them the hair dressers website on my iPhone and do the same with my demo site and then I ask them the same questions which would you feel more comfortable using? Like Global1967 the answer is obvious then I also assume the sale and close like I have the sale in the same way as global 1967 does

Small business dont need apps, they need a simple mobile site and also need customer lists of mobile customers. I work with franchises and build large customer lists and help them remarket and promote their brand You have to have the right strategy.

the coolest thing to do would be to make that whole USP (Unique Selling Proposition)
to the businesses in just 7 separate text messages (SMSes)
this way showing them directly the efficiency of mobile and SMS marketing
