Hey all,

I'm a little bored and semi retiring from the IM game later this year and wouldn't mind learning a new dev language (thirst for knowledge is a curse sometimes!)

I taught myself several languages (PHP, HTML, SQL ) over the years, but would like to start picking up some hardcopy books to immerse myself in.

Can any seasoned mobile app devs here point me in the right direction in terms of the more modern languages used for app development and their pros and cons? I am not interested in a WYSIWYG editor (a split code/view is fine however.)

I have seen several different methods discussed across several forums/blogs but am after specific book titles that anybody can recommend (there are literally thousands in the book stores here)

I'm leaning towards java & libGDX from what I have read so far
