Will the Mobile Wallet Be the Death of Mobile Apps?

So the more I look at the mobile wallet and mobile passes for Passbook and Android wallets, I wonder if it will kill off the need for mobile apps, particularly for local businesses.

With a mobile pass you can issue a coupon, have mcommerce, send a push notification, run a loyalty program, and geo-fence notifications with iBeacons or other beacons. A mobile pass really won't tell you anything about the business but that's what a mobile site is for, and, incidentally, you can save the mobile pass to your phone from a mobile site. I know there are companion apps for mobile passes but all they really do is issue the passes.

Why have 10 apps on your phone when you can have 10 passes in your Passbook or Android wallet? I'm curious to know what others think.

Thanks.
