There's a free plugin I used once "WPtouch Mobile Plugin"
It automatically generates a mobile version of your site, although the colour scheme of my site changed from purple to green when I used it.

It's free though, give it a google and see if it helps?

There are a lot of themes which have pre-built mobile friendly design and if you have wordpress site and don't want to change the theme, just install a good plugin

Download Bootstrap, it is framework that makes website mobile responsive. It is based on CSS, HTML,a and Java Scripts. You should include latest j query files that you can download from java dot com. New addition of java files are necessary to run images and j queries successfully.
Bootstrap is a well know software that is open source and it is compatible to all browsers. It divides each small/ medium or big screen of browsing gadgets in a grid of 12 rows. So its coding is done very perfectly. It has several classes. Images have image responsive class that makes images responsive to different gadgets. I have developed one site in it. Wordpress theme that are mobile responsive are also best for developing a responsive website.

If you're not "web savvy" or a developer, you won't find any products that can simply convert a web site to a mobile friendly site. You can, however, convert or build your site using Wordpress, which is easy enough for those who are not web savvy. Then, there are literally hundreds of "responsive" themes on which to base your site. Some are free, some must be purchased. Wordpress' Twenty-Fourteen and Twenty-Fifteen themes are good, and free.

Ask yourself:
1. Does all the info on the Desktop site really benefits the mobile user? Should be less info and straight to the point?
2. What do you want to achieve through mobilizing the business website?
a) If you want to do it for the sake of just have it mobilized just use a responsive theme.
b) If you want the mobile website to serve certain things like gather emails/phone numbers, have user sign up for some specials, have user call the business easily, get Directions faster etc I'd rather say that you should build a mobile website for scratch planning the design with your goal in mind. Simple design, specific information provided (not long stories), fast access to phone number, directions, hours, specials or whatever you want to focus on.
Hope my thoughts help you

If you're using Wordpress then install WP Touch plugin. It will make your blog mobile responsive in a click of a button.

You really should be moving them towards using a mobile responsive theme. Trying to convert a theme to be mobile responsive can be quite messy, better to start with something that is created with mobile in mind to begin with.

I suggest the studiopress themes. They are coded well, are fast, secure, and mobile responsive out of the box.

You can find many developers that specialize in customizing these themes. I know a guy (me) that customizes child themes or creates completely custom themes from scratch.

Nudge nudge

Chris

Why not use a responsive and mobile friendly WordPress theme? It is very easy to tweak and your clients will surely love them.

Most Wordpress templates these days are responsive, even free ones. You don't need a web design background to implement a lot of them. This is the easy route vs having to manually do it or hire someone to do it.

I wrote and published an 8,000+ word book in 24 hours.
If I can do that, imagine what you could do.

I agree with everybody about the WP themes. Many successful contacts I have discussed mobile campaigns with and who are not coders are using WP.
