QR Codes getting good exposure...

America's got talent is probably amongst one of the most popular shows on TV right now especially as last weeks show hit 11.4million viewers... i expect more people saw tonight's show since it was the finale!

What i thought was pretty cool is that a good chunk of those viewers probably saw the Macy's commercial pushing their QR Code campaign "Backstage Pass" they give a little spiel about what happens when you scan the code... am thinking this can only help make people more aware of QR codes! Definitely a win win for all those of us offering QR Code services!

the problem with QR codes is the same as that darn pen you used ot have on palm pilots....it was a no need step. Remember that scanner they made that looked at bar codes on your pc/usb in the 2000/s.....it was obsoleted.... QR cat or something....no need for QR codes. We are not the borg

I have to respectively disagree with this. QR Codes are not an unnecessary step-- they save time from keeping a user typing in a URL on their mobile phone. While it not may seem like much, if people just have to scan a code to get information they are more likely to do it.

Once NFC takes off I could see QR Codes getting used less, but for the time being it is a great service to offer clients. They provide another level of engagement on print advertising that business owners can't get otherwise.

I disagree with the new phones and such coming out. That is why iphone put .com button right? Anyway the QR codes look stupid on business walls and doors and people look just as stupid standin up next to them scanning the wall as if they are captain kirk. LOL But I respect your opp. Honestly I do.

Haha, they may not be the most pretty things to look at, but there is a lot of money to be made with them right now! There are also quite a few graphic designers out there who customize QR Codes and turn them into more like artwork. A lot of larger brands do this to "soften" the look of the code. Anyway, time will tell to see if they really take off... I don't think we have hit the tipping point yet, but we shall see!

I'm starting to see more and more QR codes in Australia. Mainly in print media, shop windows and flyers.

I think you may have missed the power of QR Codes for us as marketers.

Like them or hate them the general public and business community are falling in love with them. They link their offline material to online content.

Some we have done this week are:
Clothing company - promotion
Mattress company - tags on their beds
Wine company - on their bottles
Retail Store - Sign up for news letterer and weekly specials
Packaging company - branding
Spare parts - high end motor parts
Printer - promotions
Condo - selling units in a complex
We get about 8 to 10 mobile sites ordered a week through our QR Code site.

We offer free QR Code generation and then they call us and ask for a mobile website to link to.

It is the perfect no cold calling system.

Hong Kong, Qr codes embedded into animal designs which are printed and displayed in multiple locations around the city , ie they are the dots in a leopard, skin design in an elephant etc cleverly done to be seen and not be seen, it became a game a challenge to find them, spot the QR codes (some animals didnt have them in them apparently) , scan them.

It went viral quickly

What did the QR codes take you to, various single tracks off a new up and coming local bands new album , you scanned the QR listened to the track, you could buy it instantly there and then and/or the entire album, they done well from it and I loved the campaign and more importantly so did the people of Hong Kong

They are SO much more than a link to your URL

I have AGT on the DVR so I will make sure I don't fast forward through the Macy's ad.

I was watching the World Series of Poker on ESPN last night and a GoDaddy ad had a QR code on the screen. Scan the code to "see what happens next". But here's the problem with the QR code on TV, at least for me. It went kinda like this:

Hey look a QR code on the screen, where's my phone...
Ok, now where's the code scanner app...
OK, let's scan the code...crap, the commercial is over...
Good thing I have a DVR, where's the remote...
Got it, rewinding back to commercial...
There's the code, pause it right there...
Damn, it won't scan from where I'm sitting...
I gotta get off the couch? Aww, eff it, I'm not getting off the couch to scan that thing...

And I only went through all that because I'm a marketer interested in QR codes.

I think Lime Cellular is the best white label SMS marketing platform.

The idea for QR codes is a good one. The problem is the scanners built into the phones are crap. Take way too long to position and scan. The scan should take 1/2 second and be acurate without having to spend so much time positioning it.

Yeah that's not really a good way to be deploying a qr code!!! Macys just explained what they are and told you to scan them in store - having a nano second to whip out your phone and scan the screen isn't going to work well at all...

I think that was generally a bad way to do a QR promotion on GoDaddy's part.

It's for those same reasons, that I'd be more inclined to see a poster, flier, magazine ad, postcard, or other types of traditional text/image marketing, adding a QR code as either additional audio/video information, or as the Ad's focus and call to action.

Here's a link to a QR promotion I mocked up for a client's website.

Tamp-TNG - Imgur

It's only four images, but it explains the process for the client.

• The first image is designed to be a hyper-linked image on their website, or on printed materials.
• The second is a mockup of an iPhone scanning the code.
• Third is their chat-room login screen.
• Fourth is the full chat-room app.

I'm also giving them the URL inside the QR for their links on their site, so that Users on a PC can have the same access.

I wasn't aware that trumpia.com did QR codes but we've partnered with QRstuff.com and have loved it so far.

I do agree, there needs to be an app that auto see's the qr by pointing your phone at it, no launching, just running in back ground and no messing around with the image in the box and focusing.

Prob. soon though.
