Ahhh where would I start, I could write a book....now there's an idea lol I guess my basic rule (tip) is to combine simplicity with design so your mobile pages look good as well as providing the function they are designed for! This helps in being able to charge a realistc fee for your hard work...it seems there are way to many people out there are under selling this service when there is absolutely no need. | They're not really mobile sites as such they are more mobile landing pages. I believe he would just be using a graphics program such as Photoshop to create the unique designs since the majority of the landing page is graphics and then an optin form down the bottom.

WillR is correct, the designs I have displayed so far are mobile marketing landing pages created from scratch using the correct code (depending on the function required), CSS etc with custom graphics designed in PS and FW. Neil B

Hey Neil those are some nice designs.... wondering how do they look when stretched and retracted or is it a static page for a static size?

Thanks for the inspiration Will. We've been using your templates now with some good success and this gives us some more ideas in regards to colors and layouts. We've got our own templates that we use, but it's been brilliant seeing what other mobile website consultants are doing. |

Here's my contribution. Not very fancy, but simple - as a mobile site should be, I guess. N.B. For some sites I've made the navigation menu is not visible, since it's below the fold. ![]() ![]() Feedback?... |

Since a few posters here are actually creating these sites, I have a question. I have several mobile site templates that I use, but one has turned out to be my favorite. It has the horizontal bars as the menu like in a good number of these. I also want to be able to create templates that are more icon oriented, like an iPhone or Android, but I have not seen any templates or WSO that offers this. Does anyone know where I can pick up a good mobile templates that uses iPhone icons as the menu items? Thanks in advance! |

WillR, Great thread...thx. Wanted to share this recent GIGAOM article with everyone in case you didn't see it. Certainly underscores what you just said... Tuscan Google pushes advertisers to optimize sites for mobile GIGAOM By Ryan Kim Sep. 21, 2011, 3:00pm PT Google has been prodding mobile website owners to optimize their sites for mobile. Now, it’s taking a more aggressive step by announcing that it will consider whether an advertiser has a mobile optimized site when assessing ads quality for all AdWords campaigns. What this means is that in the coming weeks when Google looks at how to decide which ads to feature, it will consider how well a site is tailored for mobile devices, things like whether it works well for touch, is made for smaller screens, has shorter load times and avoids Flash. To be sure, advertisers who adhere to these guidelines won’t be guaranteed better visibility. But connecting to mobile optimized landing pages that perform better in AdWords will now be a factor in determining ad placement. This will only affect advertisers who advertise on mobile and won’t affect ads served on PC browsers. This is interesting because Google rarely talks about what affects keyword quality scores in AdWords. Advertisers bid on ad placement based on keywords, but Google looks at a range of factors like click-through rates and ad quality to determine what goes where. So ads that are considered to be beneficial to users can be featured higher than ads whose owners sometimes bid more in AdWords. This isn’t the first time Google has pushed advertisers to optimize for mobile. Last November, it said it would limit ad serving to mobile devices if advertisers directed people to landing pages with a lot of Flash content. And it’s put out a string of blog posts on the topic and released a simple tool for businesses to build mobile sites. Now, it’s saying that good mobile landing pages aren’t just devoid of Flash but have other characteristics that appeal to mobile users. Those characteristics include prioritizing content and making layouts simpler. And it’s now putting some weight behind its suggestions. Why does Google care about this? Well, it can encourage more people to click on ads if it can ensure that the landing pages look good on mobile devices. Google is, at its heart, about advertising, so it makes sense that it wants to improve the experience, which should ultimately benefit the bottom line. But it’s also a recognition that the web is different on mobile devices, and as people move toward smartphones and tablets, it requires some adjustment. Google said it’s in the interest of advertisers and web publishers to embrace mobile optimization. Google has said early this year that 79 percent of top advertisers do not have a mobile optimized site. But a recent study found that 61 percent of users are unlikely to return to a mobile website that was hard to access from a phone. Mobile consultant Tomi Ahonen wrote today that jeweler Tiffany & Co. optimized its mobile website and found that sales of jewelry on its mobile website grew by 125 percent. While Google has a stake in optimized mobile websites, it’s not a bad idea for publishers and advertisers to get on board. The world is going mobile and yet, it’s still surprising to see how many websites are not built with mobile users in mind. This is not just a lost opportunity to engage with a customer, but it’s potentially lost business as well. |

Thanks for the compliments, much appreciated ;-) The designs I've posted here so far are standalone, I've tested all the popular wordpress 'mobile' plugins in the past but I'm one of 'those' who believe having a dedicated mobile pressence on a m. or mobile. subdomain or .mobi url is the best way to go also you have totally control over the design and functionality etc... Look forward to seeing your work Monica... Neil B

I have no experience in mobile ready websites, no coding, html or anything. If I puchased Quentin's script/training and/or Will's script/training would I be able to create mobile websites? Didnt warrior Ben also have a training package? I have my own off-line company that I need to make one for so instead of paying someone else I thought it might be a good idea to learn, then maybe offer it to other off-line companies. |

I have a question regarding the showcases you've posted. All of them appear to be in the Safari mobile browser. I am wondering if consumers can still find the app in the app store; or is it only mobile ready? Are you still going through the Apple developer process? Do you wrap your app inside PhoneGap or Appcelerator? One last thing, a majority people in my area already have websites, and very likely are contracted to a specific design agency, etc and they may not give FTP access (or other) to you when they can do the mobile design site themselves. So I am wondering how you deal with situations like this? Do you just create the HTML mobile ready website and then send the client the files? I am very curious about this. Also, your mobile website showcase has made me very interested in your WSO too. |

Hi Zardon Who is your question for? As far as other web development companies not giving access to the FTP details, I would stronly recommend getting your client to get these details from them for you as the web/hosting company should provide this information to the client and it they dont I'd recommend they change providers. after all said and done it is their website and not the developers! The other option is to host it for them seperately although its not ideal, there are many companies out there hosting mobile web sites on thier own servers for clients...not something I'm a fan of. Wow. Very inspirational thread although at the same time these sites are putting mine to shame! Neil, would you say that those landing pages are more CSS or photoshop skills? I've been using templates so far but I think I may need to start looking more into developing them myself. Must take a bit of time to set up each mockup for your meetings though no? Anyways you've got some great work there, keep it up! Also Neil and Will, I'm very grateful for all that you guys share to the offline/mobile forums. I've been learning so much here and I hope that one day I can give back and contribute to the forum like you guys do. |

Hello Neil In your previous reply, #104. You said you are not a fan of hosting the mobile version on your own server / another server to the main website. I would appreciate it if you would explain your reasoning please? Wondering if it is from a search engine consideration or a third party (webmaster ) that could delete your redirect script, or something else? Thanks Gary PS: Great Thread thanks Will and all others who have positively contributed. |

Neil, I love these. Awesome looking landing pages. Are you selling these in a WSO? Would you sell them? I'm interested in these as templates to use for my own clients. With a button or link to the main mobile site to skip the offer if not wanted, these landing pages are the way to go. Would you use another index page somehow? Thanks! ![]() |
