What are the pros and cons of using goMobi to design mobile websites?
Share on:

I have set up a test site on my hosting account at eNom for one of my domains to try the mobile site creator, goMobi.

I really like it! It's fast, easy and has lots of built in features.

I'm just curious if there are any drawbacks to using this system to create mobile websites for clients?

I think mobi sites are lost in space. Anyone with a mobi site should probally wake up and smell the roses it is a dead URL extension. First why would they make someone key in .mobi and not a shorter URL? like .mo

Anyway, the editor for go mobi seems ok but you need to really focus on a ecosystem - apps plus website. Those two together can really build a good mobile site.

GO Mobi is great however if they go broke or change the rules then your in trouble so as long as it is just for your personal sites it is fine.

last time i looked i personally thought the output from a Gomobi site was far from perfect - especially when you get in to the nitty gritty...

have already commented on this before here on WF but if i HAD to choose (thankfully i don't) between Gomobi and say Mobisitegalore it would be Gomobi...

@Cottonking i know from all your other posts your all pro apps apps apps but for a lot of smaller companies they simply don't have the budget to create them... plus why build the app multiple times to support different platforms when you can quiet easily build a mobile site or better still a mobile web app for a lot less cost and hassle and you can make it readily accessible to ALL platforms in one fell swoop?

The goMobi site builder works with most domains, including .com.

Quentin: I hear you about goMobi.

The thing I like best about them is they have a one-click install for the 'call now' feature. Since I'm still learning the ropes on how to do all of this, that's a big plus for me. However, I'm sure there is a better way - which is what I'm in the process of learning.

It's not hard to see why he is so pro apps when you look at his signature. :p

The truth is apps are overkill for the majority of businesses and its a shame if there are people out there telling small business owners anything different.

I've used gomobi... I like it but I think it is a BIG mistake building sites for clients and not being in control of the hosting. It's a formula for taking a thriving, successful business and turning it into a nightmare when/if they ever go out of business.

Build your own; host your own. At least that's my business model.

Main drawbacks are cost and forced hosting with them.
Plus, what after sales help is there if you get stuck?

I find Quentin's and Will's WSOs perfectly adequate - I see both of them have commented on this thread, so they are both easy to find, and both of them provide excellent instructions, and I know from experience they are both available to help you if you get stuck.

Plus as an added bonus, they are both Aussies!

Just use a mobile Wordpress site and customize it yourself. So easy!

I guess they both provided a service, specially for the DIY market but forced hosting and pricing based on traffic are a huge 'no no' in my book!

Admittedly it's been a while since I checked them out but hosting your own mobile sites has got to be the best solution.

can you expand on what your talking about - ie purchase a mobile template or use a plugin? there's isn't any out of the box plugins that i know of that integrate features like click to call features, mobile navigation, etc
