I have tried to embed video on a mobile site and just cannot figure out the best way to do it. The only videos I can really get to play on my Samsung Android phone from a website are youtube videos. But I want to host my own videos and have them play. What format is required to host a video and have it play well on a smart phone? |

That is not a good practice at all.. best way to do it is link them to Youtube or something. But if you have too most devices use .3gp thats the generic mobile format. The newer devices can handle all the other video formats like avi. but if you had to do it i would use .3gp |

I believe I tried converting them to 3gp and that didn't play on my android either. I guess I'll just use Youtube for the time being.

take a look at oakridgebellows.com/m on a smartphone for an example of 3gp video... although MP4 is better quality the files are bigger and on Android 2.2 and below you cant progressively stream the video either but you can with 3GP Again to clarify and to hopefully stop people jumping in and saying use YouTube over and over... i personally think 3GPs created with QuickTime Pro to be the BEST solution for mobile video that's supported across the most mobile handsets Hope that helps | |

Well most people would watch on mobile using WIFI and probably would not do it on their plan although mine is pretty well unlimited so I do. Youtube is the best way to go as you get two bites at the apple. Just set up a channel for your customer and make sure you add a great description, Tags and titles. Q |

The OP specifically stated he doesn't want to use Youtube he wants to host his own videos... how does repeating what he doesn't want to do help him? What are the alternatives you have found that work? |

I upload my videos through easy video player and they work on my iPhone... Yes EVP is a cost but once only and allows me to embed an optin form. Hope that helps James |

That's great if you only want to worry about iPhone users - not so great for the rest of people who care about serving up the same content to other popular smartphones like Blackberry and Androids, etc.

Sublime video player is the best (most widely compatible / playable) and includes Flash and non-Flash video in same embed. SublimeVideo - HTML5 Video Player |

@Jay Moreno. I understood what he was saying. I was just saying to learn YouTube because it's pretty much the easiest and most effective. There is also Vimeo, MetaCafe, etc., bust YouTube is more common. I guess I was trying to help him by not telling him something worse. I'm not sure I would go with anything else, but it's something that works for me. Stay well everyone |
