Mobile Web Data & Statistics
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

When it comes to selling mobile services to offline businesses, whether it be mobile websites, sms marketing, qr codes, etc, it helps if you are equipped with some third party data to help back up your argument.

In this thread I hope we can all share any mobile web data or statistics we come across. Be sure to quote the origin of the data as it's meaningless otherwise.

Here are just a few to help get us started:

Google Think Mobile Presentation February 2011
Reported a 400% increase in the number of searches being carried out on mobile devices. 1 in 3 of those mobile searches is now local. After looking up a local business on their smartphone, 61% of users call the business and 59% visited.

Partners’ Mobile Omnibus Survey
Found that nearly 1 in 2 consumers are more likely to do business with a retail store if the store has a mobile Web site.

Brand Anywhere and Luth Research Inc
Reported that web retailers could increase consumer engagement 85 percent by having a mobile-specific Web site.

Google CEO Eric Schmidt
"We understand the new rule is 'mobile first' in everything.
Our job is to make mobile be the answer to everything."

Nielsen
Predicts that smart phones will account for nearly half of worldwide mobile sales by 2013. This is a clear indication of how much more the Internet will be accessed via mobile devices.

eMarketer
Approximately 30% of U.S. mobile phone users have a smartphone and that number is expected to grow to approximately 43% by 2015.

Nielsen Net Ratings
The average Internet session in 2007 lasted for 56 minutes. The average mobile surf session is less than five minutes.

Facebook
Official statistics from January 2011 show that more than 200 million users (out of over 600 million Facebook users) access Facebook using their mobile devices.

"When comparing similar ads from the same company on both mobile and browser, MediaMind found a big difference in the CTR. After looking at more than 230 million impressions, they found that the mobile Click Through Rate came in at 0.61%, while the
Standard Banners recorded a CTR of 0.07%"

According to some stats that i got in a mobile Advertising Conference; "While today mobile represents 15 percent of online advertising, by 2015 it will represent 64 percent of all digital ads".

That's the mobile revolution! those of us that will join it will reap some serious benefits out of it!

9 Amazing Mobile Marketing Statistics

3. There are 6.8 billion people on the planet. 5.1 billion of them own a cell phone, but only 4.2 billion own a toothbrush. (Source: Mobile Marketing Association Asia)

4. In some countries, there are more mobile subscriptions than there are people. (Source: Mobile Marketing Association) (How can this be? It’s because some people own more than one mobile phone.)

5. It takes 90 minutes for the average person to respond to an email. It takes 90 seconds for the average person to respond to a text message. (Source: CTIA.org)

Mobile Advertising Trends 2011

Smaato Mobile Advertising Trends 2011

– Smaato Inc., the leading mobile ad optimizer and mobile advertising company, announced today a compilation of mobile advertising trends for 2011. Smaato gathered market data for the three strongest regions in mobile marketing: the USA, Europe and Asia. The trends show market analysis published by leading market research companies.

2011: USA joins the billionaire’s club and “Big Five” European countries double their mobile advertising spending

“In 2011 we will be inside the tornado of the mobile industry! Mobile apps will continue to surprise the media; new smartphones and tablet PCs are enhancing our daily digital lives. With new innovations like LTE broadband bandwidth, NFC smartphones and more relevant mobile ad formats we will see a dramatic lift off in global Mobile Advertising,” stated Harald Neidhardt, CMO & Co-Founder, Smaato Inc.

The growth of mobile as an established media channel will continue the next couple of years. Smaato released three whitepapers together with Mobile Squared about the mobile advertising markets in the US, Western Europe and Asia-Pacific. The key findings are:

• Asia is still the leader in mobile advertising and will proceed being the strongest market in terms of ad spending. In 2010 Japanese companies already invested more than $1 billion in this business followed by South Korea and China ($270M and $180M). In Asia more than 15 billion page impressions are being generated on a daily basis in mobile.
• The US is the second largest market globally in terms of mobile advertising spending behind Japan. It will close the gab next year with a forecast of $1,24 billion and will grow up to $5 billion in 2015.
• The top 5 European countries (UK, Italy, France, Germany, Spain) will see a huge increase in mobile ad spending according to Smaato. End of 2010 these “Big Five” are estimated to have 65 million mobile internet users; this number will more than double within the next 5 years up to 160 million. The “Big Five” will reach the $1 billion mark approximately in 2014.
