What's the Easiest Way to Optimize My Blog to be Mobile Friendly?
Share on:

I have a couple popular blogs that get 500+ views a day.

I've noticed that quite a bit of people are looking at my site from their phone.

When I look at it from my iPhone, it looks a little awkward. Good enough to have a decent user experience but not mobile-optimized.

What's the best/easiest/cheapest way to optimize my blog so that it is mobile friendly?

Just load the WPTouch mobile plugin and that will convert it all for you.

I think. Its better to create a sub domain just for mobile. And build a complete less graphical mobile site. When a user will visit your site for a mobile device he/she will be redirected to your mobile sub domain.

if you are using wordpress, there are a few, wptouch seeming to be the most popular. there's also one in the elegant themes package. i haven't tried either yet.

The subdomain tactic is a nice touch I find. I would recommend doing that.

Because the mobile version of your site should be lighter, I'd suggest a subdomain myself.

how will it just auto-redirect to your mobile site?

and how would i build it differently to be mobile friendly if its just a wordpress blog?

feels like WP touch may be more feasible although this would work better in theory if i knew how to do it right

I've been using Extraordinary mobile plugin for Wordpress | Wordpress mobile | mobile plugin (not an affiliate link) on my site and my clients' sites with good results. I also got one when I bought the BackupBuddy suite of plugins from PluginBuddy | WordPress Plugins , but i haven't used it.

Building a subdomain for the mobile version of a WordPress blog doesn't make sense at all. It will require a lot of work and if you are not good at PHP & MySQL, then you will have a lot of difficulty. Use a plugin like others suggested and optimize your images as much as possible.
