This is a question that is perplexing me a tad. I understand the importance of a mobile site with a website but how would someone find their site through a search? Thanks Jake |

I don't see mobile version of a site as a separate site, it is just a different layout served to different type of devices. If a website redirects to the mobile version when someone visits it on a mobile device, then you have nothing to worry about making your mobile site findable on search engines. Focus on your main site and make it appear high on search results and let the redirection scripts (or whatever you are using for the mobile version) do their job by serving the appropriate layout to the visitors whether they are on desktop or mobile. |

Detecting mobile devices can be detected by the SE's, and results tailored towards that will most often be offered. Google has is own mobile search results. Google Mobile HTH Glenn |

FYI ONLY Google Search for Non Smart Phones distinguishes between proper mobile sites and regular desktop by displaying a green mobile phone handset next to the SERP listing. The green mobile will NOT display if the site does not validate to at least XHTML MP However despite validating and displaying the handset it shows no indication of better placement in the SERPS although it does highlight and bring more attention to it. That's why I prefer to optimize the main site to rank highly in the SERPS and have a good mobile detect and redirect in place. I feel that more people are using smartphones to surf and really won't even see the non-smartphone Google search and hence wont see the handset icon either... |

People don't find your mobile site through the search engines they find your regular site as usual, which then detects if you are a mobile user and sends you to the mobile optimized version. Regular web browsers will be unaffected. | |

These guys have excellent answers, but I found a better way. I take out a map and post it to the wall and tape the different search engine names in different parts of the world on the map. How I know when someone finds me is when I stand back and throw a dart at the search engine and wherever it lands, that's where I know the most people have been trying to find me. Ok, so by now you know I'm full of BS, just wanted to hopefully give everyone a laugh now that it's coming to be Friday, hahaha! Be lazy or stay home people |
