Mobile website- advice
Share on:

I have built a mobile version my website. Unfortunatey my main website is in a CMS system that does not support the new mobile site. Even with the proper redirect scripts set up.

My question is this..

If I set up a .mobile domain will his website will it automatically default to the mobile site when searched on a smartphone?

No, it will not. You need to have some type of redirect script installed on the main website for the redirect to take place. You can install the mobile site wherever you like - on a subdomain, in a folder, on a totally different domain, it doesn't matter. So long as you have installed a redirect script it will know exactly where to send the mobile users.

If you would like me to have a closer look for you then send me a PM and let me know what type of setup/system the site is using and maybe even show me the url.

Wordpress mobile redirect plugins

Are you running Wordpress? If so, there are mobile viewers and/or mobile redirects you can use, ie

WordPress › Mobile Domain « WordPress Plugins

WordPress › WordPress Mobile Re-direct 1.0 « WordPress Plugins

Hope that helps!

Wordpress is the way to go. If you install the plug in WPtouch, it can automatically detect if your site is accessed by a mobile phone.
