Anyone using SMS to promote their OWN business?
Share on:

I don't mean selling SMS to other businesses and consulting them through the process. I mean actually sending out SMS blasts to your own list of leads, whether it be the IM industry or any other niche.

I figure that the advantages remain the same as any local businesses using SMS over email, the open rates are drastically improved. I just presume that the percentage of people who would open an SMS and then go ahead and visit a URL on their computer won't be very high. I guess maybe you could make a mobile site for your offer.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Without shedding any light at all... the answer is "YES" Mum is the word... You can go ahead and delete this post now... HA HA HA It makes email look like child's play... Thank Goodness not many are catching on to this concept yet...More pie for those of us doing it...

Robert

Definitely! SMS benefits my business just like it would other businesses. The benefits are way better than using other marketing methods ALONE. The key is integrating it with what you are doing.

Thing is, anyone can do mobile marketing. It's not that hard at all. Once people start marketing for their own business, they realize what a game-changer it really is. And once you've given them the ability to do it themselves, they are forever grateful. SMS is way more tangible than even social media, the oft-overglorified beast in today's business game.

Let's be realistic, here. With SMS, what's good for the goose is good for the gander, and vice versa.

Thanks for the replies all. So it seems like people are using this strategy already. Anyone care to elaborate any further? Are people using this to promote IM products or other niches? Send out promotions to past offline clients? What strategies are people using to get opt ins?

The sales company I am registered to does this to all their clients. Mostly to boost their sales and give discounts to their customers.

If you are referring this question to people who's business is in offering mobile websites, sms services, online/offline marketing etc I think there are ways that they could implement SMS into their marketing.

For example, many people in the field are arranging face to face meetings with business owners to showcase what they can do for them in the hope to generate the sale. I personally would attempt to get the business owners mobile number for contact purposes, but these can then be stored into your own sms list.

What you can then do after initially doing some business with these people is SMS them about your other services. Or even an SMS to offer them commision for any referrals they may bring to you.

Just a few suggestions, but you need to build a working relationship with the business owner in the first place so that they won't be too annoyed about you sending them texts.

One of the great ways that this works is that with every potential client, I have them text my keyword to my shortcode to see how it works. That could be my mobile business card and/or a link to my mobile site. This way they see the benefit of the mobile site, making it a much easier sale, plus they are now in my mobile database, so if they don't buy at first or are a tire kicker, I'll send out follow-up text messages (like an autoresponder) to show them the benefits of SMS and how it's working for other businesses.

Doubt everything you believe.

I don't personally use it but several websites in the city I live in do and it works very well. It works really well with restaurants.

Several good suggestions here already.

Also add SMS as an opt-in option on your websites, you will be surprised at how many choose to do it.

Add text call to action on your videos. This is easy in Youtube as you can annotate a video even after its made. Best thing is, they can opt-in while watching the video (most webforms will redirect, so if you optin during video, you don't get to see the end of the video).

Hope these help...
