Hello, Just finished and got published my first mobile website, coupon, and qr code for a chiropractor that is a very good friend of mine for free as a testimonial and to learn. Everything went live and is running smoothly. I have made 8 mock ups of mobile websites for potential clients my next step is to call these businesses to set up meetings. If I actually do sell one I face a problem how can I accept checks in my business name instead of my real life name? I just feel that if a business makes a checkout to me personally it discredits me? Let me know what you think or maybe offer a solution. Thanks, Adam |

Sounds great. Nice to see you taking action. Be careful when getting cheques made out since most banks will not cash it into an account that does not match the name on the cheque. Unless your bank account also has your business name on it then I would suggest having them made out in your name. There's not much you can do about that. I don't think it necessarily discredits you - it might actually work in your favor since it shows you are working for yourself and the service will be more personalized and thorough. Be confident and I don't think they will think twice. You might be able to get around it by having them write out your cheques to yourname Web Services. So something like Warrior Adam Web Services. This way it looks like the name of your business rather than just a personal name. I'm not sure how the banks would treat a name like that whether or not they would allow it to be put into your personal bank account. Probably best to ask your specific bank. | |

Have you considered setting up a merchant account in your name? I am not sure what it costs where you are from, but in Canada I was able to open one up with a deposit of $200 and $5 a month fee. The account is setup in my business name, therefore I can accept checks for it. I like how you stated that you did some mock-ups, that is a great idea. What you could also do is mock-ups for services that you need to help get our business of the ground. For example, I went to the print shop down the street with a mock-up and told them they get the app/site in exchange for business cards and other printing services I may need in the future. I really hit it off with the owner as he runs a small shop and I can see it being a blooming business relationship. |

Not sure where you live but where I am from you can set up a business account for free and use it as a DBA (doing business as). This will allow you to accept checks in your business' name. Also, good job taking action. My only advice would be to set up the mock ups after you have contacted the business and make sure that they are interested enough to take a meeting. It will probably save you the time of creating mock ups for businesses where you don't even end up getting the decision maker on the phone. Best of luck. |

Good advice from B&B and WIllR. You have to manage your time, and doing mock-ups "cold" probably isn't going to work out in the long run. You should be able to file a DBA (doing business as) form as a Sole Proprietor (google to get the form and instructions), then any bank will open an account in that name. You might also use a Paypal account that is set up with a Name and Email address that looks more like your business name. |
