Should I convert my Flash site to Html to be mobile friendly?
Share on:

I'm considering changing my company flash site for a mobile /tablet friendly html site.

My colleagues recommended me to kill my flash site because I'm loosing leads, the site is not showing up on Google Search, and Iphones and Ipads users cannot see it.

Should I have both versions?
Should I kill it completely and have only a html version?

What's the best way to convert it if there is any? Or do I have to build it from scratch?

You should listen to your friends! flash sites don't do well with Organic rankings as well..

Kill it completely and convert it to html.. build from scratch.

Good luck!

You already posted this identical question in the main discussion forum. Don't go posting it all over the place.

I second ak1lz.

HTML should always be the main part of any website.

Google supposedly has started indexing flash to some extent, but basically there's nothing in the way of content with flash sites to index - you need to have a bare minimum of keyword density etc. which flash sites completely lack.

I agree. Flash is horrible for organic searches and I don't believe it's compatible with Iphone/Ipad.

Wordpress is fairly easy to get the hang of. Grab a template from Theme Forest and you should be able to get a quality site up within a few hours.

If you care about staying competitive and increase more leads then yes.

Here is why Flash is a disaster for 99% of businesses out there:

1. Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc. can't fully search your site.
Google even admits so itself here:
Learn More : Google Cant Find You - ConvertMyFlash

2. Mobile Users Worldwide are growing everyday.
According to figures for 2010 released by Gartner, smartphones accounted for 297 million (19%) of the 1.6 billion mobile phones sold that year.

According to Nielsen’s May survey of mobile consumers in the U.S., 38% now own smartphones. And 55% of those who purchased a new handset in the past three months reported buying a smartphone instead of a feature phone, up from 34% just a year ago.

Flash sites are not optimized for smartphones.

3. Your Flash site does not show up on 250 million Apple iPads, iPhones, iPods
Apple: 250 million iOS devices sold -- Engadget

4. Sharing Content is not possible with Flash sites.
These days if your users can't retweet, share to FB, or get an RSS feed.
You're basically just an island of dead information.

5. Most likely your Flash site does not have an easy to use CMS.
Most flash site owners need to pay to keep their sites updated by freelancers (if and when they're available). But who needs timely updates, right?
