this appears to be the game changer that was always going to be hanging over the head of independant sales of mobile website conversions. Now that it is coming. What are your initial thoughts going forward? Do you think gomo will be free to use? If it iis free and someone types "moblile website conversion" into google and sees gomo, game over. If it is not free, then how much would google charge? |

It will probably be just like their Intuit tie-in... Wish I would have thought of "GOMO" before they did though... |

The majority of business owners you approach will have never even thought about creating a mobile optimized version of their website... let alone actually been searching for a solution. This is not going to be a problem at all. Think about it. How many free website generators/builders are out there on the market today? How many people are still paying thousands of dollars to have custom websites built for their business? Even Google has their own free website builder (sites.google.com) but has this stopped people selling websites to offline businesses? NO! Besides, these third party solutions are always going to be limited in what they can do. All I would take away from this article is that Google are obviously wanting to get as many websites out there mobile as fast as possible. They would only be doing that if they had a very good reason. Mobile is definitely going to be THE next big thing. |

All this means is that you need to work a lot harder and build up your clients. The more people that already have a mobile website that works to their needs will not need GOMO. So give quality and get clients I am interested to see what GOMO will look like once its done. -m4rx |

Damn (and it's not the first word that came to me...). I usually don't worry too much about competition, but this could be a game crusher for providing mobile sites. There are currently such tools on the market, but when Google launches that it might be just too damn good and marketed (and free). But then again, Google sites have never picked off so I hope they miss the boat on that one as well! |

I agree that I don't think it will have a huge effect on people like us. We are paid for our professional knowledge and to implement that knowledge. Business owners could learn how to do SEO but they pay people like us to do it. Most local business owners that I've come across don't know much about the internet, I highly doubt that they will be interested in learning how to build a mobile website no matter how easy Google claims it to be. I have been known to be wrong... |

I fear it might be something similar with this, but better designed. And of course the marketing (and price!) behind this one could make it quite a hurdle for us.

I bet if you asked an average business owner what Google Analytics is about 99% of them would look at you with a blank face. This is a free tool that has been around forever and every business owner should be using but do you think they are? Same goes with Wordpress. Ask your average business owner about Wordpress and they will say... "WHAT?!" Why not offer to setup some free QR codes they could easily create for free themselves. "QR codes, what are they?" will be the response you get. As I said above there are plenty of free tools online people can use to create their own standard websites these days but the fact is people are still paying to have websites built by marketers like us. Even if a business owner heard about this new tool most of them would not want to touch it themselves. It's much quicker for them to pay someone a few hundred dollars to create them a mobile site than play around setting up their own. This Google service will not make a dent into things at all - trust me. Majority of the people who use it will be those using the tool to set up simple mobile sites for their clients.

Google Analytics is a good example, you're right. Wordpress is a bitch to design and create graphics and content, etc. so it's not the same thing. As for QR Codes, nobody should sell one for $397! It's just that ONE CLICK solutions are not the same to me as complex issues. Of course, there are redirect codes to install, icons, SMS, mobile ad management and all other things we can bring to the table that an automated software can't. |

Whether you beleive it or not, in a recent seminar I saw on the web Google regarding GOMO, they confirmed faithfully that they were not looking to take the place of people like us (they were asked a direct question to that effect from the audience and responding that they were not looking to replace us but to assist us in delivering to the end user) Now like I say you can beleive it or not, thats what they said |

After the thoughts posted here, I agree that GOMO is a confirmation of what we are doing. Time will tell and we will see if GOMO is competition or noise.

personally i think its either clever marketing by a non google party or someone jumping to conclusions to get a so called "exclusive scoop"... anyone can register a domain through google and manage the dns through them too... looking at the login form the source code really doesnt scream Google "code"... on top of that google doesn't own gomo.com either.... regardless it wouldn't stop me doing what i love to do anyway |

I think very few people or businesses know about HowToGoMo.com at this point, but some certainly do. A business owner's business - is focusing on their business, customers and service. For those of us that offer mobile marketing and websites, ours is providing the mobile sites that will help them capture mobile searches and customers. I have a hard time believing Google's mobile site builder will move beyond basic, but if it does, I will differentiate myself. I've always believed competition is a good thing. So let's face it head on and innovate. My products and services are worth paying for - I'm sure yours are too! (: |

Bing has a mobile site builder too...part of their local services, thats not going to stop us seeing how offliners already offer google places and bing local optimization. This just gives us an even bigger opportunity |

Cool for average folks, but businesses WANT custom mobile websites to match their company layout. Maybe the local mechanic won't care so much but the 4 star restaurant will as G's looks plain jane. Besides, Google has been in self destruct mode as of late so I DK if a lot of businesses would put all their cards on the table for this. |

Third party stuff is just too rigid and a real business always needs a programmer and designer. Wall, you're still in business.
