So what are people doing re tablets and getting sites to work on them as well as on mobiles ?

A recent online event I watched (thread a bit further down the page) many said tablets are being used a lot to do mobile searches too so we need to be sure we're not missing out on this too for our clients.

By "mobiles" I assume you mean phones. Personally "mobiles" (to me) means any mobile device including tablets.

Sooooo ... that said .... I'm not sure I understand. All mobile sites I have created work the same on a phone or a tablet. Tablets are better because it's really easy to fat finger any links on a phone. Tablets display larger so that issue usually isn't a problem.

If I'm missing your point let me know.

Ok yes I meant mobile phones, I mean I can take my cordless for a walk but thats not a mobile is it ;-)

Seriously though I am not tecchy so dont know if one coding fits all, and certainly on the online event I saw (mentioned above) where a lot of top US business people and Google spoke on mobile marketing they gave the impression that theres a difference between phones and tablets certainly in the way they are used and also (mentioning Javascript for tablets) in the way they are designed/ coded for.

So I was asking, along the lines of what people are already talking about on this forum eg scripts, ideas, templates and strategies, what they are doing for tablets in addition or different to for mobile phones.

Hi Mike,

One option that we use is to create the mobile website as normal but change how the redirect script works.

So if your client would prefer to see the regular desktop site on a tablet you can set that to happen and likewise if they want the mobile version to show.

I had a client this week who wanted exaclty that, the desktop site to show on tablets and the mobile site we created on all other devices so we just adjusted the redirect code.

To me a tablet's larger screen makes the normal desktop version of a website sufficient to display for these users.

The only thing which may lack on tablets is any hover over properties or features the website uses, which could be a big issue potentially.

Its also about the way users use the tablets compared to how they use their mobiles. People searching through mobiles are normally mobile and locally based searching, whereas tablets are quite often at home or college or holed up in a coffee shop somewhere with differing search parameters from the end user.
