How can I add content to a premade QR code later ?
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

My brain is not working and I'm trying to understand how I can give a client QR codes I've made ahead of time for layout purposes. Then when they have the content they want on the qr code I would add it.....But how ?
I know when generating one on say Kaywa. I would add whatever info I wanted before I created it. I need to generate on first than add the link, content later
Please help...I will hang my head in shame if the answer is simple

Would I just create the site (url link) ahead of time then generate the QR code with the url and give it to them. Then upload the content to the previously created but blank site when I've received the files ?

The easiest way would be to use some type of url redirect link. Setup a redirect and then create a QR code for that redirect url. When people scan the QR code they are taken to the redirect url which then forwards them to whatever url you have chosen. You can then change which url that redirect link points to as and when you please but you won't ever need to change the QR code.

QR Code ===> Redirect URL ===> Destination URL

hmm, ok I think I understand. I just have to actually do it to put the pieces in place. I 've never done a redirect before so I will look into it. Thank you

It's very easy. I'm sure you have seen all those short url services like tinyurl.com and the like. They are simply url redirect services. You input a long url and it then spits out a short url you can use to promote your site. When people go to that short url they are then forwarded to your longer url. This is the same type of thing you would do. There are some url shortening services that allow you to edit the link later and change which url it redirects to. I may be wrong but I think the Google url shortening service allows this. So you create a short url and that is what you design the QR code for. You can then edit the url that the short url redirects them to so you can change it as often as you like without having to change the QR code.

I made a QR code for sms campaign and forgot to add the Keyword and I printed the material already. Is it possible to change the text for QR code that I made for sms the campaign?

No, I think you are out of luck. If you created an SMS type QR code then all the information is stored in that QR code and no way to change things after you have had the material printed. The only way you can change things after a QR code has been printed is if you use a url redirect but that's not applicable for an SMS type QR code.

Unfortunate. Hey, at least you will never make this mistake again!

Bee Gee if you create the QR Code to where the site will be you can give that to your client and then add the content afterwards.

Hi WillR I too want to set up a QR code for y business card as I approach offline businesses

But I want to have a bit of my business colours in it so sky blue
And also I want it so that it redirects whenever I want

For instance say today I want ti to just got to my about me page on my website or linked in for now.

Then I can later say in a couple of days develop say a mobile site coupon where people enter data and get a coupon for a business I am partnering with.

So essentially I want to know how you do the redirect or how you set it up as I am clueless on that but I have read most if not all the threads on QR code (not the WSO) on WF so I have an idea of how to use free qr generator like

QR Code Generator: QR Stuff Free Online QR Code Creator And Encoder For T-Shirts, Business Cards & Stickers

Just need to know how I set up and change the redirect everytime I want to so I can hand out my business card and on the corner it says scan the QR code for this weeks surprise.

Also are there any pitfalls or tips you recommend I look into as I know that sometimes the QR code may scan properly on your laptop and then on the offline print it may have a defect.

Thanks in advance

Hi again guys did some digging on this redirect for a QR code and

I found this WordPress › QR Code Redirect « WordPress Plugins

So essentially does it work like this

You can do a post on your wordpress(lets call it ''QR Post'') or your wordpress site or maybe even just a draft (Im not sure yet if it works as a draft so its not published on your site hence visible to visitors).

and you generate the code to then print on your leaflets etc and then you can then come back to this ''QR post'' and change the destination url instead to say your new facebook fan page then maybe the week after to your linked in profile.

I also found this http://www.qrjumps.com/ think it also works the same way

I'm so excited just thinking about this

So I think I've found the solution for redirecting and hopethis helps anyone else who was in need like I was

First of all go to get you ''redirector'' address at welcome.to free short URL redirect and web forwarding service

The redirector is essentially what tells the QR code when scanned where it should go aka the destination.

Then create the ''redirector'' address and where it should forward to.
Now if you want to change the destination you can comeback and change the destination of where the redirector is forwarding to

Next use one of the QR code Generators

QR Code Generator: QR Stuff Free Online QR Code Creator And Encoder For T-Shirts, Business Cards & Stickers
Create URL - mQR
QR-Code Generator Tool - vCards, Websites, Messages, Emails & More
Custom Design QR Codes Tips
QR Code Generator, 2d Barcode Generator, QR Code
QR-Code Generator

Insert you re-director address and then.

Press generate to create a QR code.

Its taken me the whole of yesterday and early morning (early am as we speak ) to decipher all of this first understanding QR codes thanks to reading it all on WF and then trying to understand the redirect thing.

Al though there is a drawback I noticed which is with that when you go to the destination website which the redirector site has told the QR code to go to there sponsored ads which slow down the loading are there any better services anyone knows actually I think I ll make this a thread on its own so people can find it more easily and add more to the basics I was able to decipher.

If you use proper tracking software you can change the url any time.

I implemented a similar solution for the back of my business cards.

The QR code points to a url redirect service I installed on my service (yourls.org - free and awesome)

So - QR code directs to shortened URL which directs to any url I want.

The key here is the ability to change the url redirect to whatever you like. yourls.org allows me to do this.

So, I create a QR code that points to a URL I WILL NEVER CHANGE e.g. mydomain.com/notgoingtochange (this is generated in the yourls.org login area). That url then points to a url I can change any time I want.

The key is getting the QR code pointing to the right place first, and that place has to allow you control over where it redirects to!

Good luck

Exactamondo Cringer and I'm guessing that they don't throw up sponsored ads at the top of the screen when the screen is loading up at the destination?

No ads whatsoever. In fact I bought a specific url just for this url shortening service, something similar to TeezLikes.it/mobilesite

Hi again to everyone came across something rather interesting

Ok so I bought a domain specifically for the redirect set up the redirect in my cpanel

Then went over to google url shortner as I read somewhere that the hsorter the url the better or something like that

But what I was surprised to see was that if you have a google account say cos you have gmail or whatever and you are logged in when you use the google url shortner it seems it automatically tracks and provides info about that shortened url which in turns provides tracking on your QR code I dont know if its all the analytics that you would expect or just basic stuff but hey I thought id share with all
