Publishing Apps

I am thinking about offering native apps to local businesses but I don't want/need to go through iTunes or Android marketplace. Is it possible to publish the apps for download from my website? I understand that its possible with a web app but just not sure about natives.

Hey Severin,

Good question - I would also like to know the answer. Do you know where I can learn more about apps, how to build them, outsource them etc. etc. ?

Thanks!
Tim

Yes you can but you will not get many downloads if you don't publish them on iTunes or Android. Also you gotta still build them to function with Android or iTunes. I have not stated offering apps cuz for iTunes you need to develop on Mac

For Apple you have to go through the app store.

Hi, thanks for the replies. The model I'm kinda thinking of will be for businesses to have QR posters, table-tents, flyers etc and get their customers to download directly in return for a coupon or offer etc. As this will be done from their establishments I don't see the need to go through iTunes unless I really have to.

I've been looking hard and there are a few options available, a lot depends on whether you want to pay or not. Check out iBuildApp :: Create Free iPhone App Using Online Interface Builder| Android, iPad and appsbar for free options or Create an iPhone / Android App Online. EASY, FAST, RELIABLY! for a paid solution.

They all offer about the same and they seem to be adding more features quite often.

I think the most important element though is PUSH notifications.
