No Success Yet..?
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

Hey all,
so I opened my own mobile marketing consulting company two months ago and I got to the point where all I need is clients, but I'm struggling to get any.

It's been two weeks that I really started approaching prospects, but none of them seems interested. At first, I tried cold calling and got one meeting. She said she was interested, but no replies. I've called her and she seems to avoid me, oh well.

I also tried to email clients. I've bought Rob's video assassin mobile video for restaurants, and I have been emailing restaurants in my city. I've created custom URLs to track whether they watch the video or not, and unfortunately none of my prospecting clients watched the video yet and I received zero replies.

I'm also offering free reports about mobile website design, but I haven't yet got someone to download it.

I'm going to continue to cold call and email prospects, but it is so hard to find that first client.

Should I try to offer mobile websites for free? For example, email them and give them directly the link to my free report (for more credibility) and mention at the end of the email that my company is currently having a promotion, and we're designing free mobile websites for 5 companies, and offer them a spot. I think I'm going to do that tomorrow. What do you think?

Thanks.

Don't know witchcity you are and depending if they have daily uses of mobile devices through you local wimax, g4, 3g or other wireless internet.
My town just got 4g or wimax and not everyone is on, but sure that most of population like everywhere have an iphone or smartphone now.
I'm opening a new company, (quiting current one) in JA 2012 and already have a business plan..., you shouldn't just go out or cold call because of what you learn here, each and every case is different, could work well for a marketer because of location like it could fail.

I like many here have many competitors with bargain prices so to get out of the mass,
in my biz plan (revealed here) I ll have this:
Offering website design and free mobile site with QRcode.

Now let say ur a client, will you choose the guy with a website design priced at$50/month or the other guy with same price + free mobile site? No brainer!

I would start with the people you know so you can gain some confidence and have a testimonial.

Also, I would focus on one niche and test. Whats your favorite item to sell? Mobile sites? QR codes? Website Design? I would pick one of those and then pick an industry to target. For example: sell mobile sites only to pizza places and now you can have laser focus on your product and your target audience. It seems as if you are all over the place and need a focused approach.

It's not easy, despite what the WSOs want you to believe.

Are you good at design and fast? If so, go ahead and give them away to some business people with access to other business owners. I.E. accountants. Write a report that can be used to educate them about QR codes. If they like what they see, offer a joint venture of 50/50. On a $300 site, $150 each isn't too bad. It's found money for the accountant. If they'll promote you to the people that trust them, you could both come out OK.

Also, focus on some clients that can really benefit from mobile such as limo companies and bars

No one wants to be the first to wade into the water. If you built free sites for some major influencers, you can ride their coat tails and gain credibility as the guy to work with. Are there any semi-famous people with websites that do speaking and promotion of themselves? It's another good group to go after and JV with.

What exactly are you selling to them?
Don't sell them mobile websites, sell them mobile apps (websites can be bookmarked to a phone with an icon, just like an app would, so there is really no difference in behavior, but for them "mobile app" is the term they understand the value of).

Also, skip explaining the benefits of QR codes (ultra-small businesses are totally confused when it comes to anything technical, they just want the tangible and easy to understand stuff)..explain the process:
-- customer comes to your restaurant and scans the code to get to a mobile app where they can enter their info, including their birthday, to get 15% off. We get their info to be used on a newsletter mailing list - to send them special offers and stay in touch. Then the customers can also send you some feedback via the mobile app on how good the service/food was. As well as post a review on Google places or Yelp (that drives your ranking in "the map"). You got their birthday info, so you can send them a free "something" (and they'll bring their friends to more than pay for the cost). The mobile app will also have this video section for "what's cooking" where your chef talks about the latest dish - creates that personal/emotional connection that customers are looking for when buying from local places.. etc, etc..

the key is - you have to manage the whole process for them, find reliable freelancers for video, find good tools for the quick publishing of the mobile content, figure out the QR code printing, etc. But this is something that is of huge value, since 1) the ultra-small business guy won't figure this out on his own, and 2) its fun and personal both for the consumer and the business.

Nothing beats hitting the pavement and getting out there and talking to business owners. I have no doubt if you hit the road and went and visited businesses with your smart phone in hand you could sell your first mobile site the first day.

When I first got started in web design ten years ago, I did a few sites for people I knew for free. That helped get a portfolio going and also got a few referrals coming my way. Referrals are worth their weight in gold so the sooner you can do a good job for someone and get a referral from them the better.

In regards to mobile sites, I have to agree with Will here. With your mobile phone in hand, it's so easy to show someone how terrible their website looks on mobile and you can easily show off your portfolio or some demo sites you've designed. I'm not usually big on doing work for spec, but starting with a decent template and 20 minutes, you could easily cut and past content and a logo from someone's website and show them how their website could look on mobile phones and offer it to them on the spot.

Cheers,

Steve

I also just started. I have one client so far. I go into his place alot so he knows me.
I ask him questions that i know will get a yes. Like for instance: If i were able to get you a few more clients a month do you think you could handle the extra business?

Earn the clients respect, most people have other people in their lives they trust and go to for advice. Give some stuff away and build your porfolio. Then youll be the guy who everyone wants. my 2 cents

Well, I have been interested in turning my site into a mobile site. Send me a PM with the details on what you are offering and we can talk about it. On a side note, I attempted to get into mobile marketing a while ago, purchased a course and it was insane. I realized that this was not my strength and I accept that. I am good at other things. But seriously I have been thinking about this so contact me. I did install a plugin on my WPblog that made it mobile friendly but I didn't care too much for the look of it.

I own a small writing company that takes the time to make sure you are pleased with your end product visit my site at http://www.ebookwritingservices.org for more details.

Why don't you start with your warm market first (the people that you really know)?

I totally agree with going to people you know first. I just started my offline marketing business as well and my first sale was to someone that I know. He wasn't my closest friend but more of a business acquaintance. After I sat down with him and explained the concept(s), I was able to even upsell him on my other services. Now I will be going to him for referrals, which I will give him a referral fee on for those that actually sign up for my services.

It can be a daunting experience but once you have one or two under your belt things will start rolling for you. Just keep at it and things will happen!
