Mobile Question please, and then I'm READY to TAKE ACTION !

Hi to all,

was hoping for some clarification on mobile website building . This may seem strange to say, but my 'fear' of taking action has not been the 'fear' of rejection but I have been scared a client might say YES!!!!
I can't believe I am admitting that....

I have been spending weeks wondering around here and 'serial' buying every WSO that I think might help.

I should have read more here, as it seems it is taking some warriors a long time with email marketing to get any kind of response if any.

So here is what I am trying to understand.

1. If I build a mobile site for www.abccompany.com and do it on a seperate site eg. www.abccompany.mobi and I host it,
Do I still need access to their original site to put a re-direct script on?

2. What if a client has no info on this?

3. If a customer is in google on their smartphone searching a keyword , what would show up first,
www.abccompany.com which would have a redirect , or would www.abccompany.mobi show up better?

I just can't seem to grasp this bit of the puzzle!!!

I think I am not understanding the difference between a 'optimized version' of clients existing site and a completely seperate stand alone
site, and which is better.

I really really apreciate any help.

Thanks.
Karen.

Karen,
RE: #1- You don't necessarily need access to the client's site, but a redirect would need to be installed on their site, whether they do it, or have their current web person do it....... or give you their access info and you do it.

RE: #2- Seems someone associated with them would have the access info to their existing site. They could contact their hosting company and get it.

RE: #3 I suspect their existing "main" site would show up first in Google, since it's been in existence longer. All depends on the SEO of each I assume. Others more knowledgeable can confirm that.

You don't need to grasp all the pieces. There's plenty of people here that can help you around any roadblock!

An "optimized" version of their existing site is a separate site. At least that's how I create them.

Don't be afraid of success! Again, there's a lot of SMART people here to help you.

I do voice over work... here's a SAMPLE

Hi Karen,

Just a quick follow on from rlhursts reply :-

1) You don't have to have a redirect script - but people visting the main site on their mobile will not get to see the optimised version - they would only see it if they entered the .mobi domain name - so better to have the script.

2) As per rlhursts answer

3) Potentially both!! The age of the domain - whilst playing a part - wouldn't be a significant factor - the general on-line & off-line SEO would play more of a part. At 1st the main site probably would, until the mobile version is indexed and starts to ranks more - it would also then depend on your work for the mobile sites SEO.

Hope this helps :-)
