I want to sell some Mobile Sites to a number of companies that are connected to a database. I have some Real Estate agents interested, and was also looking for getting some Mobile sites made for some local Hotels, and car dealers. Can anyone recommend any developers on the Warriors For Hire or elsewhere that can design a Mobile Website that can pull data from databases (reservation systems, inventory, etc.)? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Mike |

Does anyone know of any industry standard software/back end DB that estate agents might use for their websites? If they simply have a back end DB in a MySQL database I could make some custom systems with mobile design for them, and charge a **** load. The other way is to create 2 separate websites where they need to enter each house into both systems. Or you can manage their mobile pages for um and they send you the list of house details every week, 2 weeks, month etc. I like that third option where you can try out multiple different charging tariffs and monthly income, but would Estate Agents want that extra expense when they can simple add new houses and property to their current website manually? |

An integration of number two and three is the best solution. It's best practice to have two entirely separate websites, one served to desktop users and the second served to mobile users. What is the best platform for mobile website development? That's right, our beloved WordPress. Google is giving lots of "mobile love" for mobile websites e.g. on its own domain, non-zooming, loads under five seconds, and will receive higher search engine rankings in the normal search just for having a mobile optimized site. Regarding the third option, yes. You should absolultely charge a monthly fee for keeping the site up to date because you are hosting it, at least you should be. When the company decides they no longer require your services send them a buyout bill.

Hi loganwenger, I was thinking about Wordpress too for mobile site. Some might think that mobile site should be static html, because it load faster. Some think that installing WP will make your mobile site slow. But hey, if I can get the right WP template for mobile site, the mobile site will still load fast plus it has the ability to run dynamically and connected to database. WP script itself is hosted on server, and server has lots of power and cpu. So on the server side, the WP still runs fast. |

You are correct that an HTML site will load faster. I ran some tests of HTML vs. WordPress and the HTML site performed 0.246 seconds faster. However, HTML is no fun am I right? My WordPress mobile site clocked in at 3.25 seconds which is well under Google's recommended 5 second load time. In my opinion, WordPress will always win for any type of site. Best, Logan

Mobile site today is like a main website in the past. Surely, right now, HTML is fun for mobile site. But, in the next phase, dynamic mobile site will be the trend. The ability to connect with database and to perform functions that HTML-only can't do are driving factors. That's why Mike is asking about it too. Logan, When you test the site speed, are you referring to mobile site or normal website? For a mobile site with minimum graphic and size, I feel that 3.25 seconds is quite long.

I understand what you mean. When I referred to HTML as "no fun", I meant boring, plain, the past. For the speed test, I am referring to two identical mobile websites, one HTML and the other is WordPress powered. Check out HowToGoMo.com and you'll notice that Google recommends that a mobile website should load in 5 seconds or less. Other sources say that a mobile website should load in 3 seconds or less. I know that I am enjoying developing mobile websites connected to a database, just as much as I enjoy developing desktop websites. You are correct, a mobile website should load fast and it really is the future. Thanks for your reply. Best, Logan

I went to GoMo: An Initiative From Google . It says as "A Google Initiative". Dude, is that site made by Google? If yes, then it's an authority site to me. Thanks for the link

By far, the most cost and time efficient solution is to access their current database from the mobile site. They already have a perfectly good database, why build them another? Why make them update two separate places? Just for monthly income for yourself? Why are you in business? To make money for yourself, or to help your clients make more money? If it ain't the second reason, it won't be the first reason for long.
