I'm familiar with country wise geo targeting but I was wondering about citywise geo targeting since I was looking at a site that would be looking at users ip and classify them based on their city (i.e major cities like la,ny,mumbai, london etc) The classification could be based on the population or any other yardstick(any advises about this one?) I know about maxmind's services but do they target citywise? can you guys help me out here and dish out a way to get this done, step by step in a simple way. Thanks a lot, this will really help me out here. |

City based Geotargetting will just go down into the bad notes as privacy issues will spring up again. How many of us wish to be targeted and be thrown ads and stuff on my mobile or webpages? We all know what we need when we think of getting it. I would think of using text based messaging system in order to communicated. GeoLoc is a strict no-no for me. |

Mobile phones connect us to our worlds with a reach well beyond wireline phones and even the Internet. Consumers are connected via voice, SMS, the mobile Web and applications. The mobile phone is being used to manage our lives with banking, GPS, scheduling, games, and even fantasy sports management functionality now available. Customizing a handset with icon-based links to mobile sites, interesting applications, videos and of course unique ringtones has gone mainstream. Make your mobile strategy easy to access and more importantly, relevant and personal. Mobile works best when tied together with other media like TV, print, radio and live events. For example, make sure you have campaign-specific mobile landing pages for each of your mobile banners, just like you would on the Web. You'll also want to integrate two-dimensional barcodes or QR (Quick Response) codes into print to drive traffic to a mobile Web site. The opportunities are endless. |

I was looking for the same things. I found it in this forum. Go read them. One way is to sort the threads based on Number of Views, or Number of Replies. This way you will find that most of them are useful. Hope it helps. |

@vernice54 just fyi if you are geo-targeting your mobile content you should NOT use reverse IP lookup of your mobile traffic you HAVE to use GPS location detection, the reason being is that the IP address served up from a mobile device has no bearing on the location of the actual device unless it is connected to the internet over WIFI. Whilst maxmind is a good solution for desktop PCS you really need to look into GPS location awareness. If you access maxmind demo site using your mobile device thats not connected to wifi you will understand what i am talking about when you see the results... i have been using Geo Targeting Optimized Content for many years now and have the maxmind server edition installed on one of our VPS as for privacy issues - if i am not mistaken its the mobile device browser that prompts the visitor that you are trying to detect their GPS location, they can if they want too deny you access to the data, hence why if you are doing this kinda of work you always need to have a manual version too With reverse IP detection, there is no prompt however it shouldn't be used for mobile devices as the results can vary wildly... am not talking 25ft more like whole states! lol hope that helps jay |

I'm a bit confused.. Does maxmind use reverse IP lookup technology or GPS location detection technology? | |

I think for mobile marketing, What's mobile marketing? Calling to the potencial custome to promote what we sell or offer? |

Mobile marketing works best for a local service based business that is geared toward a phone number on the website that a person can call and speak to the company, or give information that will help them in their quest in a local sense.

Here's a tip! Visit Google's HowToGoMo site, study it and understand the importance Google is putting on mobile. Then download their video and use it as part of your sales presentation. www(dot)howtogomo.com (You will have to copy and paste the links and replace (dot) because evidently, I haven't posted or been thanked enough to post links in this forum.) |

Its actually more than that! You can call and leave a voice mail to your clients. A lot of businesses who uses mobile marketing would actually use it to text to their customers updates, news, promotions, or coupons. It is really cool and innovative for businesses!
