Since none of the SMS experts have responded yet, I'll give you an overview as best as I understand it...

Have you heard the saying...... "The money is in the list"?

Here's an example of how you build your own list....

First off, people's phone numbers are personal and very important to them, so you absolutely want to respect that. So, how do you get people to give you their number?..... give them something of value in return. Let's say a restaurant wants to utilize SMS. They could give a discount in exchange for that number. Entice the customer to text "halfoff" to "0000" to get 50% off their order for example. They could also have a qr code to scan to access the same discount. As more people take advantage of this discount, the "list" is building up.

This is where you have prepared offers scheduled to be sent out to this list. Maybe once a week (could be on known slow business days) send out text messages to the list offering a different discount. These customers have already shown they are willing to accept offers so it's a matter of testing, tweaking, etc. to see what will draw them in again. You don't want to blast out messages all the time, as that could get annoying to the customer (unless it's a free meal every night)

The beauty is you can set up the schedule and offers ahead of time to automatically be sent out. And it's important to give them the ability to opt out.

Anyway, I'm NOT an expert in this. This is just an overview of how it works as I understand it. And, there are more details to fill in to fine tune the effort.

Now, all you SMS experts respond to the op, so the rest of us can learn some more!!

Just a few thoughts...

As far as using this service for customers, you could use a mobile marketing platform that gives you exactly what you need to market for these businesses.

For different businesses, obviously different strategies and tools must be employed. Our platform, for example, has an appointment reminder system that is great for Doctors trying to reduce no-shows. We use this system to opt-in patients to the doctor's list and then send them text message updates regarding checkups, vaccinations, etc.

Also, we can collect more than just a phone number when a customer opts-in via Facebook, a Website, or a mobile web page. We have opt-in forms you can create to publish to these different locations to get people to enter in their first and last name, phone number, e-mail address, gender, birthday, and zip code. This information comes in handy not only when looking at the demographics of different lists and finding out what works for different people, but also when it comes to personalizing text messages and building rapport.

You can offer these services for the business to use on their own or you can run these services for them. It all has to do with what you want to do with your time, and whether it's about making sales or more about creating great marketing campaigns. It's up to you.

If you type "SMS marketing" in Google you will find tons of information, much more than someone will be able to explain in here.
